Hi everyone,

I am thinking about what I would like to do this coming summer after my M1 year. I am pretty sure I want to do clinical research; although, I am not entirely sure where to apply for these internships. Can anyone direct me to where I might get more information on applying to these types of internships? Also, any recommendations on what we should hope to get out of our research experience?

Thanks!

unless you can get a publication out of your experience, its worthless, and you can better spend your time travelling, studying first aid/kaplan me, and just relaxing

Your school may have a summer research program that you can apply to, and they will usually provide a list of mentors that are taking students. Just google "medical student summer research program at ______" and their websites should tell you everything.
Those programs are usually about 8 weeks. You may get extremely lucky and end up contributing to a paper, but most likely, you'll end up with a nice poster/abstract at the end of it. Learning how clinical trials and clinical research is done and the thought process behind experimental procedures is what I'd look to get out of the experience.

If you have personal connections, you will be more likely to have a significant research summer that is more than just a poster/abstract. If you have any personal connections, tap them first before worrying about funding and doing random research. Second, apply to things you are interested in, so you'll show more interest than you would otherwise.
