My question is whether or not my research experience would be considered clinical research.

The lab I was in is in the deportment of lab medicine and pathology, and the focus is a neuro degenerative disease affecting human adults. My specific area was identifying gene targets for treatment and then using mice models of the disease running various experiments related to the genes.

I guess I'm just not sure if clinical research requires the human patient component.

If you are working with mice attempting to identify potential gene targets I'd say that is preclinical. Still valuable research experience however.
