Is Clinical research considered as hands on as being a medical assistant? I am deciding between opportunities and want the one that will give me the most clinical experience. Thank you!

Clinical research is a very broad term and it would depend on the study type on whether or not you'd even see patients at all (and would also depend on your skill level and training).

While there are some studies (i.e. RCTs) which will follow a group, there are many (i.e. cross-sectional) in which you review data from a given point in time or time period and thus see no patients.

Medical assistant would likely give you more consistent hands-on care if that's what you're looking for. Clinical research has the potential to limit patient care/interaction even if the study type does involve seeing patients and would potentially include reading other articles and writing up portions of the paper/study depending on your position within the team.

Hope this helps.
