Clinical Training through Caribbean schools?

Hi all, this is my first time posting but I'm trying to figure out the best option for my med education and I had a few questions.

I was recently accepted into AUC & Ross. SGU wants me to interview for the Charter Foundation Program and I'm applying to EVMS' SMP right now. So, I've been doing research on the schools and everything, and today on SGU's website I saw the "No Big Four, Only SGU" Pdf...in it they say that only SGU & Ross are "Approved by all four states requiring formal approval to conduct clinical training programs (NY, NJ, CA and FL)". But on AUC's website it says: "American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is approved by the Medical Board of California, the Texas Medical Board and the New York State Board for Medicine. Additionally, AUC is fully licensed by the Florida Department of Education's Commission for Independent Education." Are these approvals something different?

I'm really confused, so any advice would help.

All 3 you mentioned have 50 state approval. You can practice anywhere in the US after you graduate and go through residency.

AUC>SGU>>>Ross when it comes to lifestyle

SGU>AUC>>>>>Ross when it comes to clinical spots

In my opinion its a toss up between AUC and SGU if u can get in. Make sure you exhaust every option in the states if u can handle DO do it if not AUC/SGU will be your best. Ross is special i still do not understand why folks go there must be there alumni and PR campaign.

American med schools are increasing their classes every year and residency are not really increasing so make sure u stay in the states if u can.

If you want to do a remedial type program prior to starting classes then go with SGU.

If you are eager to start medical school right away shoot for AUC or Ross. Personally, I chose AUC over Ross because of the smaller class size and living conditions. All three schools will allow you to practice in all 50 states.

I believe AUC cannot have clinicals (3rd and 4th year) in NJ that is what SGU is talking about. You can practice in NJ. If its an issue that you must do your 3rd and 4th rotations in NJ then do not go to AUC. If you dont care, then AUC is a good choice.

You are correct that AUC cannot do clinical rotations in NJ. AUC never applied for clinical rotations in NJ, whereas Ross and SGU had. So, when NJ closed their doors to foreign medical schools, Ross and SGU were grandfathered in. This is what I have been told by other AUC students, I haven't researched it myself.

I have seen this marketing pdf as well, and keep in mind it is just that: marketing. SGU is a great school, and does a good job of getting you where you need to be. AUC does as well (where I attend), but I would agree that SGU has a bit more resources once you leave the island. Ross is in a bit of flux right now with some clinical problems, class size problems (which I believe they are correcting), and the way they test. I sat near a Ross kid on the plane my last trip home, and he said their testing during the semesters is a little rough, and some students feel the idea is to get kids to fail. I'm not there, so I can't say for sure. But as far as AUC, everywhere except NJ you are all set for CLINICALS. As far as becoming a licensed physician, you are good for all 50 states, as schandan stated above.

And, of course, as Docsammd said, if you can stay in the states, do it.
