I am wondering how common, if at all, podiatry students do a clinical rotation away from the usual school and city. If so, do you pick where you would like to go, or does a program pick you?? Can you go internationally or is that a bad idea?? Do you choose how long you would like to be away from home base, or is this prescribed by the schools and/or hospitals involved??

Each school has a different number of months away. Minimum is 4 for any school.

THis is in the 4th year. some schools start in the 3rd year though.

You pick the programs and where but most are in the US I only know of one program in Israel that is abroad.

Some schools you are away all year and have no requirements at the school or home city.

Some schools tell you your months away and you also have required rotations at the school/home city.

This is a very important thing in decifering between schools. Make sure to ask about the 4th year. Each school has its advantages and disadvantages.

There are also schools that give you 4 months to do a core at one hospital. This can make you or break you for residency selection as can an externship vs just a few days visit.
