I have upcoming interviews at OCPM and NYCPM and would really like to know your opinions. Which school do you think you would see more diverse pathologies? Obviously in NY the patients are plentiful, but I would like to see w wide variety of cases as well. For anyone who chose OCPM over NYCPM or vice versa, please share why. Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

well i personally shadowed at NYCPM and was content at what i saw and felt comfortable with the doctors over there. They were very knowledgeable and patient with the students.

In almost two hours on a Monday i seen about over twelve patients ( hard to recall exactly how much because this was in September). I did see diverse pathologies, i seen a plantar facsittis case in relation to medial foot pain {baxters neuropathy, entrapment of LC nerve}, orthotics given, cortisone shots given for a followup with plantar facs for another patinet, cuting of nails n calls, a patient with gout given allopuranol, wart removal, a quick in-grown toe nail surgery, and the usage of digital x-rays.

It was very nice experience i was lucky to see diversity but regardless i asked around and its not just cutting nails there on other days. NYCPM even has an OR room that i looked in but i didnt get to see any surgery there. Best advice, is shadow a few hours at the clinic and see for yourself.

Well during your NYCPM interview you get about an hour, hour and a half to shadow some students in the clinic (school + clinic are in the same building). OCPM didn't do this as the main clinics are not on campus - there are a few treatment rooms that they are doing foot screenings and such for the residents of Independence Ohio (I think it was only on fridays but maybe has expanded now). I've completed an internship at OCPM and shadowed 2x at the NYCPM main clinic. NYCPM seemed a lot more diverse and crazy busy - and I was told it was a "slow" day. My mentor DPM went to NYCPM and told me of all the interesting things he saw and experienced. Even learned spanish by working in the clinics as a student doctor.

Thank you for the replies. I actually had the opportunity to shadow the clinic at NYCPM and was really impressed by the different pathologies I saw in a such a short amount of time. My experience at the NYCPM was superior to what I saw at Temple. I would still like to check out some of the clinics at OCPM, though I'm sure it's far different from NYCPM.

The Independence clinic in the school is open every Monday and Friday. As well, the clininc on the sixth floor of Huron Hospital is alot busier as well

How are the clinics during the winter months??? One of the admins told me that things slow down considerably during this time, as a number of patients rely on Cleveland's public transit to get to appointments. In other words, a pretty big amount of cancellations/no-shows.

Thanks mildoc!

Yes, I was wondering about this as well. What's the deal?

in a way that is true and a way that isnt necessarily --- yes if it just snowed one foot outside-- the patients will probably not show up. But ive also seen the exact opposite of that. It just depends on what the patient population the clinic is seeing-- ie in east cleveland at Huron the above statement would be true, but not so much so for EUCLID or Independence, Part of your Huron clinic rotation is spent at NEON clinics with Dr. Johnson--- and her schedule is 90% of the time jammed packed to the point that she has to contact other ocpm clinics to send extra students over to help out

Did you talk to students to get their input on clinicals or just listen to Mr. Berger and that other lady on your interview day? Yea Lebron James is cool but it's not gonna make OCPM cooler or better by him living & playing a few miles away! NYCPM has much better clinicals, and the public transport for patients to get to the clinics are far better. You will see so much more at NYCPM as well. Have you seen Huron Hospital clinic at OCPM? Talk about an awful part of town, and an awfully slow clinic to boot.

My 2 cents 👍

How do you know this? Have you attended both OCPM and NYCPM? Just curious, you act like you know what you are talking about.

From what I've heard the Huron clinic is picking up a lot of pace, plus the NEON clinics keep you active during that rotation. It is only one month during the 3rd year and 1 month during the 4th year if I understand correctly so either way if you have a slow month as long as you utilize your time correctly it won't be time wasted.

It is really frustrating to constantly think about which school to choose. Can somebody please write your pros and cons for OCPM and NYCPM? Any current students out there, please put your input. Here is what I have:

OCPM: Technological advanced, location is in a safe area, cheap cost of living, 100% residency placement (does anyone know the stats for NYCPM)

NYCPM: Busy clinics so more learning experience, class starts Aug 31st 🙂laugh🙂

I don't know much about NYCPM, but if current students can give valid information that will be helpful.

Thank you.
