Silly question...do 3rd years use clipboards and paper format for their H&Ps? Would it be inappropriate to use ipads and use everything virtually (which i think would be so much easier than writing)??

Thanks.

Wait, what is your question? Do med studs on clinical rotations use clipboards or ipads? The answer is yes, both. Do they write their notes out or use an EMR? Depends on the hospital. Do they write their notes on an ipad? I guess you could do that but you'd still need to copy it into whatever record keeping system is at the hospital you are working at. (EMR or paper charts)

Much easier to write a SOAP note on paper, then copy it for yourself. IDK, at least at my hospital, we still use paper charts, but electronic orders/flowsheets.

Oh ok thats what I was wondering...my question was pretty much can you enter the clinic room with just your ipad, pretty much type up stuff on your ipad mini and then print it out if a paper copy is necessary.

Why not ask current 3rd years at your institution?

I would imagine there would be concern about patient confidentiality if you did it on your personal iPad. I've never heard of anyone doing this, personally, even with people who brought their iPads to the hospital.

Have you tried typing on it? It's going to be much more time confusing than just carrying around two or three pieces of paper.

Also, I don't think administrators are going to like data being saved on a non-secure system.
