Almost most schools ask the question of is anybody related to you work in the school/university. How does this work. One of my uncle works as a physiotherapist. when said Yes for this question do I get any preference. My Mcat/gpa average is inline with EMORY school median mcat/gpa.

I have 2 options md/phd and MD. In the above case which one would yield better results.

Thanks

I think they ask it to exclude potential nepotism, I doubt your uncle will have any impact on your chances, it is up to you to decide what you want more. To become MD/PhD one needs 1000s of hours of research, do you have it?

Yes. I do have about 2200(distributed over 7 semesters) hours of research and another 1200 hours of volunteering/leadership.

Again, it is up to you to decide what you want more, if you want that PhD – go for it. I am not an expert in PhD, so cannot advice anything on that.

Is English your second language? If so that’s going to be the major hurtle for you getting into a school like Emory.

I would not apply MD/PhD unless you’re an otherwise stellar candidate, which it sounds like you’re not.

Huh...

His post reads like it was written by a 6 year old, or someone who can not speak English fluently - this is a major issue
That is different than saying that it will be a major hurdle getting into Emory if English is his second language. Emory has a lot of students/attendings/department chairs with an 'accent.'

It was a euphemism. I maintain that someone who speaks broken English will have a tough time getting into any US MD school.

You can never tell Whether or not someone’s internet postings represent careless typing or a difficulty with the language - so I asked lol. Nice trying to social justice warrior me though.
