Bahahaha. I am posting because I am a fellow TX resident who appreciates your username.
From hearing the feedback on my own WAMC post and of other medical school students, it is generally difficult to apply to OOS schools as a TX resident, regardless of whether they are private and OOS friendly. I have several friends who got into UTSW and Baylor, but they never got any OOS II's despite having them comprise half of their school list. However, this advice doesn't hold if you have ties to another state.
I would pick OOS schools that you would choose over admissions to TX schools, especially considering the price tag (note that finaid options will vary across the schools). WashU really loves high stat applicants, and I think that 515 may be 10th percentile ( but I do not recall). I think it is very unlikely for us to not get into our TX schools but get into similarly ranked OOS schools, so you may want to screen out the OOS mid tier schools in your list or be selective in what OOS schools to apply.
Just my two cents. I'm going through the process with you. Best of luck.
