What clubs/organizations are you involved with?
More importantly, what clubs do dental schools like to see you interacting with?

Preferably pre-dental club if your school has one because they have events with dental school recruiters and other speakers like dentists, dental students, tips from pre-health committee, fun dental related events, etc.
To answer your second question, I'm not sure if dental schools are looking for specific types of clubs/organizations as long as you're proving your passion toward dentistry by shadowing, participating in pre-dental club's events (if applicable), and your willingness to give back by volunteering (there are many organizations on campus that are established mainly for that purpose so you can always join some. Oh and holding some officer positions will look really nice on the resume too). Good luck! 🙂

Get on the e-board for your pre-dental club and participate regularly in a volunteering club/organization. Those are the top 2, i'd say.

If your school has a pre dental organization, that's a good place to start

Thanks! I knew that they would like to see us in a pre-dental organization, but I had no idea that there were clubs for volunteering. I'll have to look more into it and hopefully my school ends up having a few.

My pre dental org requires volunteering to be a member, you might be able to kill two birds with one stone
Awesome, I just signed up today for a couple of organizations at my school and I'm looking forward to becoming an active member with them. I also just applied for a local pre-dental internship where I live and would love to be given the opportunity to take it.

I have another question, does shadowing and getting a LOR from a dentist that went to the school your aiming to go to help your chances of getting in?

Our school doesn't have a dedicated "pre-med" club, just a science club. Would it be worth it to start a pre-dent club....even if there are only 10 or so members, assuming all the pre-dents join??

I would. It would look great on your application and more than likely you'll be the president of the club which makes it look even better.

If there isn't even a prehealth organization to begin with (a "science club" is definitely not the same thing lol) I would say to start one! It would be more practical to start a more general pre-health club rather than starting just a pre-dental club because this increases the amount of people that will join it. We have one at my university and different people serve as the pre-medical chair, pre-pharmacy chair, pre-optomoetry chair, etc. so you could be the pre-dental chair! You could also be the overall president. It's pretty neat because at the meetings they'll discuss things that are beneficial to all the pre health students like volunteering opportunities or academic support but they will also discuss things related to the particular subfields like medical, dental, etc. so it's good for everyone.

You're quite lucky that such an organization does not already exist, this is your golden chance so take advantage of it!! Go for it 😀
