are there certain programs that will accept you as a second yr med student if you perform well in the smp program? ive heard this but am unsure of how accurate it is...how do you go about choosing a program? are some more highly regarded than others by med schools?

No, carefully, yes...

woops, didnt mean to be so general...accidentally deleted part of my post! i had also meant to ask about what ppl feel are the most important things to look for when picking a one year program. I know they can be pretty expensive, and some involve things like research and a thesis, while others do not. what types of things do you all look for when weighing the benefits of different schools- or is it the rigor of the courses and potential gpa alone that people care about?

Some people feel strongly about post baccs with linkages - not important to me.

Cost was/is a huge factor for me. Convenience, too (do I have to move somewhere else, etc?).

I think the prestige of the program or school matters somewhat. Also in formal post baccs I think the support they give to students is important, such as a committee letter...still, it is very possible to navigate the post bacc waters successfully without a formal program (and the extra costs those entail compared to informal "do it yourself" post baccs may tilt the balance to going it alone)...
