Although my job reimburses $3000 for CME, it's paid as a normal amount on my W2 paycheck, meaning I loose 40% on taxes. So that mandatory $1000 licensure, certificate, PALS, etc that they require but reimburse, I'm actually still paying $400 of it.

Am I nitpicking here or is this actually something worth pursuing?

Check your W2 reported income and see if the math is actually right. Your employer might make it look like that on a paycheck but not actually have it count as regular income.
