CMS Proposes Requiring MTM Expansion

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Need for more MTM pharmacists? Probably not... I've only heard of 1 pharmacist on this board and 2 in my area that actually did/do MTM as a full-time job. In my mind, the more likely scenario is that big-box pharmacies will start making MTM a mandatory job responsibility (i.e. another metric - how many MTM's did you do this week?) rather than having MTM as more of an 'optional' job responsibility like it is for many today.

There are a lot of pilot studies being tested on new innovative ways to do MTM's. I think we as pharmacists have an opportunity to step up to the plate and show outcomes and how MTM's provided by pharmacists can improve therapeutic outcomes etc. If not the gov't, payers etc will just think anyone can do it, which is true but we have demonstrated time after time we can do it better 😉

Most likely the case for CVS/Walgreens. Independent pharmacists can probably capitalize on this better.
