Co-leading in a community service organization started by my parent? How does it look on a resume/part of my application story/theme?

During COVID, and as a result of it too, my father started a nonprofit mentoring organization for young people in our ethnic community and it has slowly grown. I’ve participated in it through mentoring hs students, gave talks, helped fundraise, etc. but did this not to put on my resume or anything but for the fun of it and to genuinely get a little involved in my community and help out the organization. Recently, I’ve been thinking about the overall theme of my upcoming MSTP application, and several of my activities (that are actually on my resume) center around working with underserved communities and mentorship. I was wondering how it would look to also include my participation in my father’s organization in my story and application? Would it be looked down upon or not respected enough because the organization has family ties?

I don't think that it would be frowned upon. Just make sure that your dad doesn't write your LoR. LOL. List someone else as the contact person and you're fine.

got it, thanks! do you think it'd be ok to talk about my dad a little bit during interviews when i give some context about the organization?
