MD & DO co'21 Residency Panic thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Man I gotta find a hobby...major downside of being in the midwest when its snowing and all bars/restaurants/indoor activities are not available due to COVID. Haven't even gotten an "application received" message yet and I haven't felt this neurotic since med school apps

After seeing my top Choices handing out interview dates already.

Haven’t read the entire thread so not sure if this was posted but on reddit they have specialty specific spreadsheets:

Was slightly freaking out about the the silence while others mentioning already receiving interviews but it was nice to see that none of the programs I applied to was listed in the interview offered tab as of today. Also plan to contribute when that time comes since it’s anonymous

is there any way you could post link to this spreadsheet? thank you

got my first IM invite and they had one date (tomorrow) available to schedule and It filled up in 2 mins. So yay?
Similar stuff has happened in the past with in-person interviews. It's extremely frustrating and the burden is on the applicant to continuously check to see if a date opens up or more are added. Hopefully it isn't worse this year with the increase in applications and everything virtual.

Prolly it is going to be worse lol.

I got a message in my message center. From a prelim year with an optional information webinar.

IMO these programs should not be able to put anything in our ERAS message inbox that's not pertaining to an interview invite or rejection. GTFO with these webinars bro. Only webinar we need are interviews, stop spamming us

Has anyone thought about what to say / if to bring up the PE situation for us DO's? As in, during the "what questions do you have?" stage, would it be a good idea to mention that although I won't have a PE by rank list, neither will most DO's and to reassure them that I will pass first try? Or better to not bring it up and hope for the best?

If a program gives you multiple date options via email and you respond via email (no option to schedule on ERAS), should you just assume the date you asked for is yours unless they say otherwise? They said they would be reaching back out with additional info about schedule and such in a couple weeks.

Edit: They got back to me (not even 24 hours later). Guess I just need to be more patient lol.

very interested in this question as well @Goro

My school advisor said to not necessarily expect IVs for the first week or two. He's probably right.

This gets at the root of a double-edged sword: On the one hand, I understand and would almost prefer 1-2 weeks before I hear back, because it probably means that programs are doing a thorough review of applications. It's almost a bit of a red flag to me for interview invitations to be going out this quickly to people without direct ties to the area/program. It would be impossible for a program to review 1000s of applications in ~30 hours without cutting corners.

On the other hand, a quick interview invite to someone without ties to an area/program could insinuate that they're a program's ideal candidate, the crème de la crème of all applicants, so to speak.

All in all, to echo another poster on reddit, all I want is just one interview invite to gain some confidence. Then I'd be comfortable playing the 1-2 week waiting game.

I pretty much only applied to places with regional ties haha I’d love even a “received” email just to know I didn’t mess up my app somehow

I will not bring it up unless asked. They have my app and transcripts. If they care, they will ask. If they ask, consider ranking them low.

It was supposed to be about 11am eastern I guess

I had read 11pm eastern, which I didn’t think made sense. I came to check in on this exact thing. Does anyone have more info? Radio silence over here and while I know I should CHILL...would just love one invite so I can relax/know my app isn’t one giant red flag

Will emails continue through the weekend or are the admins off? Or maybe it's program specific?

5 minutes ago ERAS tweeted this: “Programs: CSV/Bulk print exports are now available in the Program Director's WorkStation (PDWS). If you have any questions, please contact ERAS Client Technical Support (M-F, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. ET) at 202-828-0413”
