I haven't had anything significant with caffeine in it for the last 15 years or so. I tried a single sip of coke one time about two years ago and I spent the next 2-3 hours bouncing off the walls with tremors. I'm really glad I gave the stuff up, because I had forgotten what it does to a person.

No caffeine through high school, college, masters, or medical school.

However, my current philosophy is that if I drink enough fluids and keep my bladder full, I will never fall sleep, because I will likely pee my pants. So, the problem of fatigue and drowsiness has been solved without xanthines. 😀

i can't live without some delicious QDOBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skip Starbucks and buy a thermos, you'll save yourself $10 a day.

Oh coffee,

Tastes so beautiful
Makes me feel so beautiful
One sugar one cream

Our school sells us coffee every morning for a dollar. It helps me keep awake during lectures.

I also cannot live without my Ipod. I am slightly addicted to it 😀

Is it weird that coffee makes me sleepy?

It used to happen to me too. Whereas most people will crash a few hours after drinking the coffee, I was crashing within an hour.

How about adding "Both tea and coffee" to the poll options.

I'm starting to think about what items I must absolutely buy before my first year. So far all I have on the list is a nice coffee/expresso brewer.

I like diet soda. I need something cold and refreshing in the morning and iced coffee is expensive.

I am ABSOLUTELY obsessed with "sour patch kids". Its always on the top of my grocery list. I can eat a 5pound pag in 2 days......

I didn't think your hybrid kind existed, my bad. Can't edit polls unfortunately. You should just give up tea and double up on the coffee my good man.

Seconding this. Seeing my classmates buy coffee every day is a bit 😱 for me, I think I've spent a total of $10 on campus so far this year.

Going to school in the carribean there are a lot of things we have to live without for 2 years..🙁 but luckly we have nice weather 85% of the time😀

has anyone else ever tried mixing coffee with hot chocolate?? it's awesome!

"The poor man's mocha."

Yes, I have done it many a time 🙂

It does taste amazing. That's what I have in the evenings when I want some caffeine, and it's delicious.

The hot cocoa has to be good to do this... if you have bad coffee and mix it with good hot cocoa, it is good, but bad hot cocoa, even with the best coffee will spoil it...

Should I be insulted.😛
I love the taste of a good cup of joe. Then again, I also love the taste and the health benefits of drinking green tea.

Yes, I have done it many a time 🙂
May be so, but I love me some good ol'home made cafe mocha.

the best thing my school's administration ever did was set up free coffee for med students in the cafeteria.

If only...but I have a coffee pot at my desk, which is awesome!

Every single country you go to you will see the same things:
Zombies want brains...
Vampires want blood...
AND
Medical students need coffee!

I have an allergy/intolerance to coffee so tea for me!

I drink 2 soy lattes a day. My family got me an awesome nespresso machine so I can make them myself 😀
I also make iced green tea with lemon that I drink throughout the day.

... if you were buying five 20oz coffees every day, and your thermos was free (with unlimited free refills).

Guess you shouldn't take what the financial aid lady said on face value.

1 tall skim peppermint mocha at starbucks by my school is $4.23. only have to do that twice a day to get near the $10/day. I don't know about you, but I definitely drink at least two cups a day. And starbucks' plain black is kinda crappy (at least in my opinion).
At what starbucks is coffee $2 only?

I never touched the stuff until med school... now I'm pretty sure I have more of it in me than blood.

(Seriously. I didn't realize that part of my "tiredness" wasn't just being a med student. Turns out I was crazy iron deficient with a crit of 23. And I just thought it was the workload. Now its back in the 30's, but my energy level hasn't changed at all. Coffee is better than blood.)

Straight black....
Up to 2 litres per day...
The last time they drew my blood they told me they found some blood in my coffee 😀 😀 😀

No coffee for me. That stuff tastes like garbage. I do drink some lo-carb Monster though!!

I have both a decent Cuisinart Brewmaster coffee maker (with coffee from www.roasting.com when I get around to ordering) and a Keurig single-cup coffee maker.

The Keurig coffees are like crack. It's made coffee my main source of liquids.

Recently got a french press and it's just awesome. Not a huge fan of starbuck's normal coffee (pike place or something?), but they do have one called Casi Cielo that I really like. If you get a regular coffee you can always ask them to french press it for you for no additional cost instead of getting whatever is sitting on the drip brewer, you just have to wait the 4-5 min for it to brew.

OH.... anyone else like the Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee?

Was there over the summer and made sure I brought a bunch back since it's ridiculously expensive at ~$40-50/lb here in the states. Good stuff.

That said, the regular dunkin donuts coffee is not bad either.

Jamaican Blue Mt. is the gold standard in coffee. That said, it's not as consistant as Kona.

Either way, decent coffee (at a buck and a half a cup) beats "skim pepperment, half-pump vanilla, mocha, two-thirds left-handed mocha pump, half-caff latte" eight days a week.

No coffee, no tea. I guess that makes me a robot? I had a friend in undergrad who couldn't function in the mornings without his Red Bull. That pretty much solidified my aversion to regular caffeine. I have to watch out about drinking too much soda at dinner or else I'll be up all night.

Luckily, it means if I do have to pull an all-nighter, it's just one Red Bull and I'm good to go!

When I was pulling double shifts back in the day I had to have two red bulls every day, one by 11am and another by 6pm.

Caffeine addiction can at least force you to drink tasty and enjoyable beverages. Much preferable to nicotine addiction.

PS No coffee and no tea does indeed make you a robot. Sorry!

Umm, I sadly discovered by accident in 2nd year that I am exquisitely sensitive to caffeine... coffee and tea both give me palpitations and I get really agitated... though interestingly other CNS stimulants do not have the same effect on me. Anyone else have this problem? Now I'm relegated to drinking decaf and/or herbal teas 🙁 Occasionally I forget to mention decaf at the coffee shop... half an hour later, I have to run home to take propranolol. Once when I couldn't do that, I ended up drinking half a shot of whiskey from the bar next door to calm myself down.

my iPhone. I get palpitations if it's not within a 2 foot radius of me.

😱 Are you serious?

edit: ".....eaten by the Luwak and the resulting kopi luwak is a blend of coffee created naturally in the stomach of the Luwak."

this thing craps it out... craps collected, coffee separated, cleaned, shipped, drank.
supposedly one of my classmates said it was possibly best coffee..

Dude, does anybody have this issue in which immediately after downing a cup of coffee you start feeling drowsy? Every time I have coffee, a short while later I start feeling really really drowsy and take a short nap. Only after that short nap do I feel the full caffeine induced alertness.

Anybody know why the hell that would happen? It is annoying.

Let me tell you where its at for study food/drink combo.

Get some decent quality coffee (starbucks, dunkin donuts, whatever you consider quality) and along with it eat some dry roasted peanuts, raisins, and M&M's mixed together (trail mix). It is sweet, salty and bitter all together, the best study combo ever.
