So how many of you guys drink coffee every single morning during the school year? I've been debating with people that its best to limit caffeine only to exam weeks. Everyone is different, however I keep getting told that caffeine is almost mandatory on a weekly basis to be the best student possible-which sounds crazy to me. Others say everyday, that once or twice a week will just throw you off. With all the controversy and confusion related to rather or not we comprehend best with or without a caffeine high, really makes me wonder how many college students, especially pre-meds are consistently drinking every morning.

Every morning... two to three cups.

Then one espresso mid afternoon. I am a junkie. I admit it. I have problems.

I love caffeine. I love it so much. I scoff at caffeine free diet coke.

I usually have a cup of tea in the morning and a cup of coffee in the evening, basically every day. My blood pressure is fairly low and I make sure that I stay hydrated throughout the day, which eliminates the two big risks associated with too much caffeine (or so I think).

Thats pretty crazy. If I were to do this I would age 10x as fast and die from insomnia.

I have to drink coffee every day that I have classes, otherwise I spend all day doing sleeping... 😴
I stopped drinking coffee for lunch though. Started ****ing up my GI. 🙁

Oh man, whenever I drink a coffee with extra espresso. 🙁
I still do it though 😀

Well, there's some (non-conclusive) evidence that drinking coffee on a regular basis has health benefits. If you're talking about the mental alertness aspect of it though, using it every day will cause you to develop a tolerance to it, and then it won't really be all that useful.

My guess would be that if you're going to take doses at the level that can cause tolerance, you'd need to limit it to only a couple times per week, otherwise the benefit is going to disappear pretty quickly.

Many students use prescription drugs (amphetamine derivatives) to achieve similar highs during study sesh'es.

I will drink espressos and coffee to stay up late at night if I need to cram for an exam. Normally though I drink two or three monsters a day during classes. I take the weekends off and avoid caffeine. If I don't drink energy drinks I just am too tired to pay attention.

My coffee addiction started sophmore year in college. I need my single cup of joe in the morning otherwise I have the worst headache and I get cranky. Lately I have started my day by drinking a cup of green tea rather than coffee. It has helped me out a little. I don't feel so hyped up in the morning. Green tea has a lot less caffeine than coffee. Its great for tapering off coffee slowly.

That was def undergrad for me, except it was Rockstar. I drank more Rockstar in college than water, no exaggeration. Not out of necessity, more out of convenience, as they were supplied to me without cost.

Lately it has been a cup of coffee at 8pm after work to try and get through secondaries. I only like to drink one cup a day so it makes getting through the last couple hours of work really hard.

I've been drinking coffee since 14. I love the stuff. Think I'll make a fresh pot right now.

(_)> yummmmmm

I drink coffee every weekday morning at school, and then try to limit it during weekends. I actually ran out of coffee today. A small piece of my soul died in the process...🙁

I've been drinking coffee since I was 6, and I love it! Usually don't drink a lot of it though unless I am home. I'm too lazy to make my own coffee and too cheap to buy coffee frequently at college

Caffeine on non exam weeks usually come from pre-workouts I take.

Otherwise I double-fist the Rockstars like a boss

I hate coffee, outside of the very rare caramel latte w/an extra shot. Though I love how it smells.

But I drink about 80-100 oz of Diet Coke a day (and 64-96 oz of water). Plus whatever caffeine is in the pre-workout mix I have 3-4 days a week.

lol you sound exactly like me...

caffeine gets me started on the day, and usually every morning on the weekdays i drink it. on the weekends however i wake up late due to the previous night and i don't really need it.

You really shouldn't use caffeine pre-workout.

I usually stick with various teas...could never really get used to the taste of coffee so I tend to avoid it.

Isn't coffee a known carcinogen? I don't drink coffee, sorry guys. It tastes like ****, smell likes ****, and looks like ****. Only time I will ever drink coffee is around test times. Even then I usually just pop a caffeine pill for the same arguably better effects. My grades and test scores don't suck because I don't drink coffee.

Carcinogenic? What?

I guess I will see you guys in the afterlife.:meanie:

What? The studies I've seen are suggestive of coffee having a *protective* effect against cancer.

I only drink coffee during the pre-exam week, but it's because sometimes I don't sleep for 4 days consecutively and I need the sensitivity...

PS pure caffeine is incredible

Ever since high school, I've been drinking at least a cup every morning...at my worst I was chugging a liter or two a day.......definitely none of that currently (well see how the fall changes that)

BTW I like eating my kittens with cream

I've had a cup of coffee with breakfast for years now. It's more of a routine/comfort thing. I usually have another cup sometime during the day, too.

I have tea about a million times a day, green, black, and chai, and I drink coffee right before tests; it usually helps me focus. 😍

The amount I consume cycles with the semester.

First 4 weeks=1-2 cups in the morning.
Middle 6 weeks=2 cups morning, 1-2 cups afternoon to early evening
Last 4 weeks=am I ever really not drinking it?

Rinse and repeat.

Coffee was my crutch throughout my masters degree.

I'm confident it will be my lover throughout medical school. hahaha

This describes me to a T. Especially the diet coke part. I actually got into a fight with my mom over the gold versus silver diet coke issue.

It's funny how cancer is under both "Benefits" and "Risks".

I also worry about how much caffeine I'm going to consume for med school. I looooove coffee 😍 (been drinking it since I was a kid), but I'm not a regular drinker. I drink coffee on occasion (usually just when I had finals in college). I try not to drink it too much so I won't develop a caffeine addiction (I used to have one and the withdrawal headaches were horrible). But I know I'm going to be beyond exhausted in med school... and I might have to pick up the habit again.

I've been debating whether I should buy a coffee maker for med school...

I've never cared for tea. I only drink Red Bull for emergencies (i.e. final's week).

Wow, y'all are caffeine addicts.

I've had coffee maybe two or three times, and I haven't had a soda in over eight months.

But I do love me some adderall...

Soda is nasty as hell. The only thing I drink is water, tea, coffee, beer, whiskey, and rum. (in that order) And maybe some fruit juice one in a while.

never realized so many people drank coffee lol. ive had it maybe a handful of times throughout my life, same with soda. mostly just drink water and milk.
rarely did i need an extra boost during study sessions, but when I did it was by using my jack3d pre-workout powder 🙂

Water all day everyday. I do enjoy the occasional Teavana teas I have (they're amazing), but I believe they all have little to no caffeine in them. I'm trying to stay off the stuff until I totally need it.

Ugh. I had coffee once a few years ago and it was nasty. I prefer to chug sugar free red bulls and energy shots when I need them. Otherwise I am a DP addict. 😀 I may be screwed if I ever have to move up North...
