College (and beyond) Nightmares

Who else has had nightmares about failing classes, missing finals, or otherwise blowing chances at medical school, residency, or beyond?

I've had one every year or so since high school, last night in my dream I was finishing my spring classes before starting medical school... but I had forgotten about this one psychology class. I had C's and D's on the tests and the final was tomorrow, which I had totally forgotten about. Woke up panicking, took me a while to remember wait, I'm not in classes, I'm just "chillin' 'till schoo' starts". 🙂

Parents have told me they have them every so often, being late for final exams and such. What about y'all?

Twice last week I dreamed I was rejected from my top choice program. That I'm still waiting to hear from. So...really hope those dreams aren't prophetic.

The night before the interview for said program I dreamed that I was lost and couldn't find my way to an interview in the city of one of my other top choice programs.

I've talked to my friends about it and most of them have dreams that are more abstract or surreal. Apparently my brain is very literal 🙁

I've dreamt multiple times of being late for class. Generally a few minutes before my alarm goes off. Never something as catastrophic as failing a class, though.

An elderly (65+ years) professor of mine said she still gets nightmares about failing exams even though she hasn't taken an exam in decades!

I've had that one before, except I realize at the end of the semester that I haven't gone to any of the classes and missed all the exams for some random class I forgot about.

Very common. I have bad dreams about not being ready for lectures, not having exams ready for exam day, and still being in grad school but lacking something required for graduation.

I still randomly have nightmares where I realize I have a final for a class I forgot I had. College was like 6 years ago.

Totally true too. I had this dream for like a year after graduating. Then I enrolled in a single class at a near-by college over a year ago to get a pre-req before applying, and have had this stupid dream every now and again ever since. What's really weird though is for the last 1.5 years the forgotten class is always "Japanese II".

My most common dream is that I have to go back to high school, because I somehow didn't complete a pre-req class to graduate so I needed to go back to finish up my degree before I could move on with whatever I am doing. Just last night I had such a dream. My English teacher pulled me aside to tell me my high school graduation was after the first day of med school so I couldn't go to med school that year. Also the classroom was larger than a football stadium but was nonetheless fully enclosed.

Two nights ago I had a dream I was interviewing at a med school where I've already interviewed. While in the main building, on the 5th floor, the building collapsed and I fell. Woke up right before I died.

In another nightmare I was at Harvard Medical School interviewing, and 2 med students were laughing at me and ridiculing me. I forget why.

A few weeks ago I had a dream where I was trying to interview at a school, and there were 2 student interviewers meant to interview me at the same time. When we all got into the interviewing room, I realized the two of them were dating, and they were too busy flirting and kissing to give me any attention. I just sat there awkwardly, wondering whether I should interrupt them.


Yeah, basically I need to stop reading SDN.

Now that you mention it, I had a dream recently where I wasn't allowed to graduate because I hadn't finished my reqs and would need to stay another year. And I had already been accepted.

I woke up and remembered that I graduated almost a year ago and have no obligations till August. Fell asleep.

I often have a dream where I look up my grades online during the semester and see that I have a D in some random class like history that I forgot to drop and just haven't been attending lectures... then I wake up relieved and feel great haha

I've had at least 3 dreams (nightmares) in the past year where I've had to take my O-Chem II final unprepared.

I have a recurring dream about being enrolled in a statistics class for an entire semester and forgetting I was ever in it until finals. In the dream it is finals week and I check the online course sites to see where I am standing with my grades going into finals. Thats when I notice I have gotten a zero on every exam in this statistics class that I had completely forgotten I was even in! I then remember that I went maybe the first week and decided I could blow off class and just study for the exams. Apparently, after making that decision its like I never thought about the class again. I usually end up begging with the professor for some solution (like an incomplete). I don't even study for the final because it won't matter with a 0% in the course.

I had a dream that I was late for my Orgo1 final and I was freaking out. This was three weeks after grades came out for that semester.
