Student mental health work doesn't pay all that well. A lot of these jobs are not year round, and most of them are part-time. At a well known private university on the west side of the Mississippi, (trying to stay anonymous), the hourly rate is $65-70, and most of the psychiatrists are part-timers, with their own private practice. There is a director, who is full time. At another university, public, they have just one psychiatrist, who is full time during the academic year and part time in the summer, and that pays about $140,000 annually.
