This is my first time posting,so I'm not sure if this question has been asked. I'm wondering if anyone knew of the med schools that put an emphasis on surgery..particularly neurological and orthopedic. I'm interested in pursuing one of those branches.

I don't know of any school that would emphasize surgery. I think, though I may be wrong, schools emphasize general areas such as primary care. I know the school I am going to emphasizes rural primary care in it's classes and rotations.

i agree with amy that you'll find schools' emphases to be more broad - such as rural primary care, etc. if you want to look at certain specialties, you might want to look at the affiliate hospitals of certain medical schools.

i've heard that georgetown students do unusually well in the ortho match, for some reason. i'm not sure why though.

Thanks for the welcome. I was reading a really informative book called "Becoming a Physician" and it stated that some med schools put an emphasis on certain areas of medicine. So,I thought I'd ask about surgery.Most of the schools I've looked at so far are stressing primary care and research.I did some fishing yesterday and found the University of Maryland has a school for Neurological surgery,I think. I may have to just keep looking.

you could maybe check out the match lists, and see which schools send the most students to the best places in your field of choice. hope that helps.

i don't know of any schools that "specialize" in surgery, but i have heard of schools that place an emphasis on rural and/or primary care (my school, for one), or schools that emphasize research (such as duke). if you're really sure you want to do surgery, look at match lists and see which schools match students to neuro or ortho residencies.
