Does anyone know how the admissions committee operates post-interview?

Do they meet the same day as the interview to discuss and score?

or

Do your interviewers score you and then meet at a later date?

or

Something else?

Curious!

I interviewed there last year, and found their admissions process to be the most frustrating one I dealt with. What is up with making you wait seven friggin months for a decision? Most other schools let you know in a few weeks. For god's sake, people.

Anyway, what they said at the time was that they look at your app twice. It gets scored on the first pass (the same day you interview), and then revisited in a couple of weeks for an additional score. They apparently have a formula for dealing with these numbers in terms of how your final score turns out.

thank you so much!

If anyone else has additional information on CU admissions that would be great! I have found their procedures to be somewhat mysterious.

I interviewed there on Sept 20 (or something). It's a semi-open interview, so they've seen your ECs but none of your scores. After that they look at your transcripts and your MCAT. CU has rolling admissions and I think they meet periodically. I don't think they vote the day you interview, but I received my acceptance shortly after the Oct 15 notification date. Sorry it was slow for some, but it isn't always that way.

I guess this wasn't that helpful, but I thought CU did a pretty good job with me.

They meet immediately after interviews to review applicants. I have no idea what happens after that, but if they really really like you, you'll be notified within a couple of weeks. Otherwise, you get notified in about mid-March along with most other people. It's not a true rolling admissions process. In general, the admissions committee seems to do a pretty good job. The office is underfunded, understaffed and sometimes frustrating to deal with, but they do take their job very seriously.

If you have other questions about the med school you are welcome to PM me.

i know... it sux to be CO resident 🙁

re the 7-month wait: consider it as a "post-interview hold"

one good thing about the delay is that August MCATers have excellent chances of getting in, unlike true rolling schools where there aren't many places left when you finally get interviewed

How has Colorado been treating people lately? Are any more acceptances rolling in? Since it's been so long since my interview, I'm finding it hard to remember stuff now. Perhaps the amyloid plaques are already building up... Check out the Class of 2009 page, I'd love to see some discussion going on about this school...

Have any August MCATers gotten an interview invite to Colorado? I know of two other CO residents (besides myself) who are Aug MCATers who have heard nothing. I do know of two regular applicants who were complete in July or August that got an interview date of Nov 22. I thought it was weird that UColo offered a November date in an August invite.

At my interview in early November, they told us that they meet to score you on the afternoon you interview. That number is entered into a computer. Based on their historical data, they accept a few people right away, but the vast majority are placed into a hold pool. They then base decisions strictly on their scoring system, notifying most people in March.

That said, if they do decide to admit you immediately, it takes about 6 weeks to find out. I interviewed in early November and heard back on 12/23 via e-mail (followed by a real letter). If you have questions, definitely call them. Sean in the admissions office is great and very helpful. Good luck!

I was an August MCATer last year and interviewed in January. There's plenty of time left.

BUT make sure that your file is complete. One friend of mine forgot to send in the secondary fee, and did not find out until after interviews were over in March. They closed his file without contacting him.
