So I got an acceptance from Colorado yesterday that must have been sent out December 1st (I was out of the country for a couple weeks), and now I only have a few days to decide between Colorado and Detroit-Mercy. I've heard really good things about both schools, and I know a few people at UDM who love it, but I don't know anyone at Colorado. Do any of you have any input on either school that you feel would be important in this decision making process? Thanks in advance!

Anybody have any advice? I have like 12 hours to decide lol. I've lost a lot of sleep over this, so I would really appreciate any advice.

Is there a significant price difference? If its more than 50K then I would go with the cheapest one.

The prices are pretty close (<50k). Tuition is a little higher at UDM, cost of living is higher in Denver.

Do you want to cheer for Stafford or Tebow?

In all honesty, would you rather live in Denver or Detroit? That would be my next choice if they're both good schools around the same cost.

Both are good schools, all I can say is colorado might not be able to match udm in the clinic, but living wise I think you'll have a great time in colorado. The schools are even in everything else. Personally I would go to Colorado because i have never lived there (i have lived in mich). It just depends if you are ready to live a long distance from your family, I assume your from nearby detroit, if you are take the leap to Colorado you wont be disappointed. I apologize I dont hear a lot about Colorado, but thats a good thing I think. I'll ask around my school if anyone knows anything about Colorado, then I'll let you know but I dont think many people are from there. Good luck

Thanks for the help guys. The think I worry about with moving to Denver is that my girlfriend (who graduates undergrad in May) would be moving with me, and I don't know much about the job market in Denver. I'd hate to drag her out there with me and have her just sitting at home every day with no job prospects. Do you guys think there would be a major difference in specialization rates? I'm leaning towards GP, but I would like to keep my options open. Again, thanks for the help.

I think Denver's economy is on the upward swing, if your girlfriend has a good resume there should be know reason for her not to get a job. For the specialization I personally dont think it matters what school you went to, it matters more about the boards which are going pass/fail by the time you will be in school, so whatever exam takes over the specialty you want, your score in that will be a good chunk of the determining factor.

Usually I would tell most people to go to UDM, but if your from detroit I think it would be a really strong advantage to have knowledge of two areas especially if your gonna open up your own practice. At least thats they I would think of it.

I'm not that familiar with Detroit, I'm from Grand Rapids on the other side of the state. I get the impression that UDM has a bit stronger program, would you agree?

We had 5 people from my predent club go to Colorado last year and they were accepted to multiple places. They all love it! Mainly they love living there and snowboarding on the weekends. They say the people are pretty cool too.

The only thing i personally don't like about Colorado is that you have to schedule your own patients in the clinic. Best of luck!!

How big of a problem is having to schedule your own patients? I guess I don't know what that entails. I'm not a big fan of the mandatory attendance at udm, since I'm not much of a morning person. How much stronger do you guys think udm's clinical program is?

Its not that the teaching is stronger at either or, its just udm has a location that will provide a greater diversity of the problems you will handle, with that comes greater experience. The location is both a positive and a negative, you probably will not be going for walks around the school lol. Scheduling your own patients becomes a problem when theres not a big enough patient pool, and I dont know how Colorado's area is, do you know anything about it? Also I didnt think that it was mandatory to attend at udm, i thought that was for places like nova where you got sign in.

what did you end up picking? I am still waiting to hear from colorado so I kinda hope you picked detroit but if you picked colorado I hope to see you there! haha.

I ended up choosing UDM. It was so hard to turn down living in Denver, but udm seemed like it would make me a better GP. I hope you get my spot!
