You will receive 2 IDs when you matriculate at Columbia. One is the Medical Center ID, the other is the Columbia University student ID. In order to obtain the latter, I need a 2 by 2 photograph. I will then send it down to the main campus and your ID will be made. Therefore, please send me this no later than June 15, 2004.
Please remember to send in your coat size to Schein. The deadline for that is June 15, 2004. Enjoy the summer.

no bid deal if you dont send them in. you can always go to the security office and have your picture taken for them. but it's good that they're actually giving you guys everything before you start school. back when i started 1st year, everything was so disorganized.

Thats so weird I never got that email. Well thanks for the headsup I'll get that sent in ASAP.

funny thing, i got that in the mail ;-)

Its an omen. You mother school is calling for you.

Hi, guys. I have a question on financial aid package. I'm doing the paperwork now. I'm so lazy...

Am I to just send in the 1-page Financial Aid Acceptance Form 2004-2005, or do I need to sign the promisory note and send that in as well? I'm confused...

Also, on your award letter (with all the numbers and breakdown of kinds of loans you will be receiving) do you find the word "scholarship"? Mine has "General Scholarship Fd Stipend" for $6160.00. What's this?

Yo Aileen,

I think the scholarship is just free money the school gives students to help them pay for school. I don't think it has anything to do with merit, just your financial situation.

Fred

Yeah you're supposed to send the MPN in. And make sure it's for the right lender (I think you have to request another one if you want a different lender.) 🙂

I thought I got free money because I wrote some essay and submitted to the financial aid office. Maybe not...

Don't they make us sign MPN during orientation/registration?

Aileen,

We should sign the master promisory note and send back to the financial office as soon as possible. I chose T.H.E. loan program as my lender. I think THE is all right.... 🙂 You can also apply T.H.E. loan online directly and tell the finacial office that you applied on-line. But I chose the traditional paper method.

I think General Scholarhip is the money you don't have to pay back. It's a great thing to have. 🙂

F.Y.I, I called the housing department and they said we should hear where we are assigned to live the second week of July.

Did anyone put Towers as their first choice?

Maybe the question should be did any NOT put towers as their first choice. 😀

We have to wait till second week of July... 😴 So long... I put Towers as my first choice.. can't wait to find out if I got in or not...

I was uptown and picked up my housing assignment...they're starting to send them out. So i got 3rd floor Bard with riverview but no sink. They said they don't have any tower openings right now, but we can always sign up for a waitlist to move later. Check in is 8/23/04. It says to accept this offer, send required materials by 7/8/04.

I was praying for Towers. I am definitely depressed 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 .

I just called the housing department, they said they are still working on the assignment. They won't be able to give us an answer until next Tuesday. Crossing my fingers.. still hope right.?

I justed called the housing department. they said I got the Georgian (railroad)....does anyone know anything about this assignment?? and the location of this place to the school. the map is kind of confusing.....

Georgian is right across from the Hospital I believe? It's closer to where our classes are than Bard Hall or the Towers.

And you're pretty close to the subway from what I remember.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I have a kitchen next year.... :scared:

Mangocat is right...Georgian is directly across the street from the hospital on 168th street. You can walk outside your building and you're facing it. Just take a couple steps to cross the street and you're in class. It sounds like a decent place. It's a two person suite with kichenette and bath, and living room.

Yah, I met a guy on the street who lived in Georgian...he showed me his room cause I was curious....for NYC, it was not bad at all...like SillyRabbit said, its a shared kitchen which is doable and a decent sized living area.....definitely MUCH MUCH better than Bard....Bard was such a hole!

I remember someone told me that if your lived in Georgian your super close to the ER and it gets pretty loud at night sometimes. Is there any truth to this? I just hope I get like bard or georgian. I'm kinda looking forward to dorm life again. I'll be fun....

Trust me freddy...you should try and get anything but bard...ive slept in some crappy hostels in my time, so I really dont have strict living standards.....and not to say that bard is in that league, but I definitely would not want to live there for one year....i suggest you actually check it out before committing....

Freddy, I heard as well that it gets pretty loud in Georgian because of the hospital there. But as my Mom pointed out to me, it's going to be loud no matter where you live in New York 😛 And eventually I'm sure you'll just learn to tune it out.

I think Georgian is def. a good option....
Did anyone see if students had hot pots and microwaves in the Bard rooms?

If i end up living in bard my microwave, toaster, and foreman grill will be there with me. I'd get a mini-fridge too. Too bad I wouldn't have a sink!!!

Hey guys,

Well just got my housing stuff today, surprisingly early. So I'll be offically living in Bard hall (as I expected) in room 320. So anybody else living in bard this fall let me hear you say uuuuuuughhh.

I don't understand this. I called today and they said they are still doing housing assignments. Also there are still openings available in Towers.

got my assignment today...georgian studio. is it nice in that place?? also, where can you get furniture around the school? im tryin not to buy new couches, tables, etc...any advice?

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

hey Freedy.. I got assigned to the infamous Bard Hall as well.. Room 333..My brother live in the bard hall before for a week, 5 years ago..and he told me its terrible. I heard that bard hall is like a jail room..

Do any of you guys know if they remodeled the place lately?
And have any of you guys actually saw the place? I try to find pictures of the place on internet, but, there is none..

hmmmm.. I am starting to wonder if I should consider off campus housing.. ...

Okay, Bard Hall is not as bad as I persumed. 🙂
Only, it is a bit small, I asked for the room size and its 13 ft by 10 ft.
But, still tolerable. I got to see what the dorms look like.
For all of you who wishes to check out their housing in 360 degree view..

I got Georgian too. A two-person suite. So no oven, which is dissapointing since I love to cook. However right across the street from class, so I can sleep in! Does anyone know a dental student named, Azadeh? She's my roommate.

i got towers some how! yayyy haha...did anyone else get towers... i know azadeh (azi)! shes AWESOMEEEEEEE...shes like my older sister...ur gonna love her as a roomate! i had actually preferenced the towers and then georgian and azi as my roomate...shes so sweet 🙂 🙂

anyone else going to be living around the upper west side? like from 70th -90th st. and broadway or amsterdam? just curious....

and... does anyone know how much work we get the first week of class? i was planning on going to vegas that labor day weekend...

dentalchica congrats on Towers. So you know Azedah? Do you have her email address or can you give her mine? I would really appreciate it.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Ahh..I guess misery loves company because I (and my microwave) will be in Bard Hall as well. I'm not on the same floor as Freddy and Bebe though!

After that virtual tour, I don't feel as bad about my room-it doesn't seem like a cardboard box! It's bigger than I thought it would be. Anyway, at least a few of us D1's are in Bard so it won't be that bad. We'll meet lots of other non-dental students as well (trying to be optimistic here.) 🙂 Also, they told me there is a place that sells wraps and whatnot on the bottom floor if that is any consolation.

And I'm sure our friends Nyla and dentalchica will let us use their kitchens now and then? 😛

I have been reading all of your posts, and I am glad to see that everyone is playing nice. Get ready for one of the most intense years of your lives. Good luck, and see you all in August. (who will be the lucky little sib for me?)

Sweeeet, another bardian. Wow your room is really close to mine, I'm in room 320. We're going to be hall mates. I saw the pix from the link you gave and the room looks pretty cool actually. Plus with the gym and eateries right in the same building, you can't beat it. I also love that fact that we have personal sinks in our room although it looks like your room doesn't have one from the floor plans. Oh well whatever you're super close to the bathroom anyways.

dentalchica...

i'm more concerned about your bar being full stocked...haha...

just might have to stash some 6 packs in your fridge so i can take a 'break' in between classes.... 😀

u alcoholic! haha jk...definitely have parties at my place! (hopefuly my roomates will be cooL!) 🙂

Just throwing it out- my assignment is on the 7th floor of Bard!! I guess I am excited?

I was looking at another thread about dress codes and got to wondering if any of you all knew what the dress code is during our first couple of years.
