I was curious to know what the lowest DAT score is to get accepted to Columbia. One of my classmates is applying next year and wants to know this too since he's taking the test soon. For those of you who got in....can you please post your DAT scores (and GPA optional). Thank you!!

Dentalchica, did they ask you about the 16 in the PAT? Was it a big deal? I thought they wanted 20/20s. I personally have a 21/17 and am I bit worried.

dude, what is your GPA like?

Your dat is fine!

I got a 16 on the PAT and Columbia never said anything about it. Actually from a man on the admissions committee here at the University of Florida, 16 is acceptable but they of course like higher PAT scores. He also made it seem that he is aware that the images at the testing center are significantly harder than the practice PATs.

Hey Nyla...

Why not UF? I'm a Florida resident and I too decided not to go to UF. For me, it was just the fact that i didn't want to be in Gainesville for 4 years. Ft. Lauderdale is much more appealing than Gainesville. You pick Columbia for the same reason, NYC? I just wanted to get another Florida residents perspective on the subject, thanks!

I got a 14 twice on the PAT and I got accepted into Columbia---I am not bragging!

Wow, thats amazing! Most schools have min on all sections, which i hear is a 15. Your other scores must have been awesome.

My other scores were pretty good that's probably why the PAT was overlooked. From my experience with interviewing and applying to dental school, I am under the impression that most schools are more concerned with science grades/DAT scores. I could be wrong, I don't know for sure.

Did anyone get below 18 AA? Please specify. You already got in so you don't have to worry about anything...and perhaps other aspects of your application were outstanding.

My GPA was 3.6. I got a 21 academic, 23 science, 17 PAT. I was never asked about PAT by any school.

I doubt that Columbia will accept below AA18 - unless your Science GPA was 4.0 - I could be wrong.

I chose to leave Florida to go to Boston U. because I am tired of North Florida. I wanted a TOTAL change and so Boston fit that well.. Also UF dental is plagued by politics.. you have to get on Dr. Sposetti's good side to be let in... and shes a total bitch..

Gatorfan.
-still a gator for college sports, though.

Yeah, Boston is a change, I mean, who would want to live in Florida. I HATE going on Spring Break there. Imagine living there year round, all those beaches and chicks wearing bikinis, SCREW THAT! Give me Boston any day. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I have been at UF for six years and I really wanted a change. I have also heard some bad things about UF.
1. I also heard that UF is plagued by politics.
2. Racial issues.
3. Rampent cheating.
4. People are unethical, as in purposely do a procedure incorrectly so patients have to come back and the student gets more credit.
5. Also I know some upperclassmen and some of the incoming class and well....... I am so happy I didn't let the price of Columbia scare me. 🙂

Haha, exactly why i decided to stay in Florida!

if you can't get a 18AA average on the DAT...i don't think columbia's the right school for you... you'll be struggling a lot....this school focus a lot on "basic" sciences...

17 PAT - It didn't even come up. I'd like to hear what the lowest AA they accepted was.

Ok, so far the acceptance with lowest PAT was 14.
How about AA? Anyone get 19, 18? Lower?

Maybe... a low AA has nothing to do with if you will struggle with basic sciences, but with a low TS score, you definetly will.

How about TS18? is that too low for Columbia?

well my gpa is like 3.2 science 3.5 or so, but i was wondering... With columbia being so competitive, would someone w/ similar stats as me but w/ a 18 or above on the PAT have an edge over me in the admission process?

Or does the school say "ok, we just want to make sure you get above a 16 PAT, and then look at the rest of your application."

I think "Basic" is a gross understatement......... 🙁 They really work your butts off.....

actually.....i think one of my classmates had 18 or 19 on AA.......but did decent on GPA

SloppyJoe,
21/17 is great and your GPA is fine too. I think you have a good chance actually. Many of us got in with 16 on PAT, but our AA was above 20. So you're in great shape! 🙂 Good Luck!

If you get above 20 on your AA, you can get into just about everywhere providing that your GPA is good and your pat is not too bad. 17 is fine. Sloppy Joe, my advice to you is that you APPLY EARLY !! You'll get an interview for sure and probably get in, if you apply early enough.

My impression is that your last statement there is largely accurate from the anecdotal evidence that we have. I haven't actually heard of anyone being asked to retake the DAT on account of a low PAT score. I have also heard of people with pretty low PAT scores getting into some competitive schools. One other thing that you can use to support your statement is the formula that one dental school uses in accepting applicants (see the thread called "secret formula"); the PAT isn't even a factor in the formula.

IMHO, perceptual ability is a learned skill, and if you can show a basic ability to analyze 3 dimensional objects in your mind, you are trainable.

23 AA/TS
17 PAT
~3.1 GPA

wasn't asked about grades or lower PAT

Did you get accepted to Columbia with those scores ? 😀
