Hey everyone-

I stopped by the admissions office today and they were busy stuffing envelopes. 210 applicants were accepted, and the waitlist is about 250 people. Around 4,000 rejections were sent. Not all of the letters went out today - that's a lot of envelopes to stuff. However, all of the acceptances went out, and I do recall them being sent Fedex. All other letters are in a thin envelope, including waitlist letters. Good luck and godspeed!

Thank you for posting!

:scared: More freaking out :scared:

basically if we dont get it friday or saturday were finished. i for one will declare my rejection before it happens.

210 acceptances and 250 waitlisted? I was under the impression that Columbia interviewed about 1200 people a year, and that everyone not accepted gets waitlisted...so do a lot of people indeed get rejected post-interview? Or did they just decide to interview a lot less this year? Puzzling.

if youre number 250 on the waitlist its as good as rejected anyway. better to be rejected to one can move on

I, too, declare my rejection before it happens... even tho I don't have a picture of donald trump under my name.

"I'm fired."

So, FedEx acceptances went out on 3/2 ... some of the lucky and nearby applicants should be hearing today, right?

i'm in nyc - so nervous - but yes, shouldn't take more than a day for those of us nearby. waitlists and rejections probably longer...

If they aren't going to email us the decisions, they should at the very least email us the FedEx tracking numbers!! :meanie:

I did not think FEDEX delivers on Saturdays unless the sender (Columbia) pays an additional fee. Anyone care to confirm/deny that?

Just talked to admissions office. Everything went out yesterday. Nothing is going out today.

I think you're right about Saturday delivery costing extra. Delivery time also depends on what type of Fed-Ex they sent the envelopes...approximate delivery times can be calculated on the Fed-Ex website.

I also just talked to the admissions office. Everything went out today, nothing went out yesterday, according to the woman that I spoke with.

Not that it matters - when it comes, it comes.

and everything by regular MAIL, not fedex -- what i was told when I called

I wish they'd get their story straight!

Lots of misinformation out there . . .
A post on the Columbia Acceptances Thread says letters go out today. (not sure)
It also claims that acceptances are priority not FEDEX. (I buy this).

Oh it matters all right! The difference between Saturday and Monday is an eternity, give or take a couple of hours. I don't even want to imagine the absolute horror of waiting until Tuesday!!!

I kid, I kid .... but seriously, what the feck?? Did they go out yesterday, or are they going out today?

why are they giving different people different information. maybe the people who answer the phones don't know all the details?

I am not holding my breath. I don't think my 3.2 gpa and 32 Mcat are going to hold up.

Shredder, I truly hope you get in. Good :luck:

Is someone able to answer once and for all whether they reject post-interview, or only waitlist? Thanks!

They have rejected in past years (this based on past year threads). I don't see how they couldn't reject people.

I don't know the real answer, but I would be surprised if they waitlist up to 1,000 people.

Unfortunately it seems that almost nothing gets answered "once and for all" in these threads. We're masters of speculation, my man, and we'll only really know something when we actually get the decisions.

Based on the numbers given in this and other threads, they do reject people. 210 acceptances + 250 waitlist spots = >500 interviewees who get rejected

OK this time lyricist beat me to the punch 🙂

Nothing is definitely answered, but one can make a pretty good guess -->

Acceptance letters sent out yesterday via priority USPS mail (or possibly FedEx. although unlikely.)
-- If you are in the NYC area and are accepted, expect a letter today (at the earliest), but probably Saturday or Monday.

--If you are outside NYC area and are accepted, expect a letter sometime early next week.

Waitlists / Rejections sent out today via regular mail.
--Waitlist / rejection letters should arrive next week (or at the earliest on Saturday if in the NYC area)

Happy waiting. :luck:

👍 (Consensus is the next best thing to definite. Ill buy this analysis)

Unlikely that anything was sent FedEx, because FedEx doesn't deliver to PO boxes and lots of college students have those.

Why can't they just email us?

I think I'm fired, too.

But I'm okay with that. I hereby bequeath any possible claim to an acceptance to Columbia to Shredder.

Well if you have been fired, don't expect me to shed a tear for you, Mr. Duke School of Medicine Class of 2010 🙂

thanks hyperion, now I can spend all day fighting the urge to leave work early so I can check my mail at home. Not that I even know what time the mail comes, since I'm never there when it happens. And who knows how long it takes mail to get from nyc to philadelphia anyway.... 😛

(congrats btw 🙂)

are you kidding, with a website and app like theirs you want them to be that up to speed with technology? impossible

impending firing so bequests are futile. board of directors is not happy i sense

I'm wondering the same thing, except for D.C...

But it's geographic discrimination!

GRR. no matter what I enter into those damn boxes I can't make it say anything less than 2 days. 2 days, from nyc to philadelphia?? 😡

Just kidding 😀 Guess there's no point in rushing home today then 😛

Congrats to all those who've been accepted ... I used that Postal calculator and it said 2 days to Florida for Priority, and 3 for First Class. So, if I get something tomorrow I'm in, if not it lloks like waitlist or rejection.

Okay, NOW I'm nervous!

It could have been mailed in the afternoon on Th. Give yourself a 1 day buffer on the acceptance.

Congrats hyperion and NoSoupforYou!

And, yeah, Priority Mail is two days to most places... So if my mailbox is empty tomorrow, I'll have my response.
