To those who had interviews previously at Columbia,

Which hotel do you recommend given the nightly rate and proximity to the medical center? Thanks.

find a friend in the city.

yeah, i'd reccommend finding a friend in the city. You can find some nice places on the upper west side, but that can be fairly pricey. You can catch either the #1,#9 or A,C (which are express) to go up to washington heights, so you can pretty much stay wherever in the city. one thing: DO NOT stay at the Hotel Riverside Studios on W. 71 st. WHAT A S**THOLE and a ripoff!!!!!!!!!! If you're gonna stay there, might as well find nice crack house in Wash. Heights. At least you'll be closer to school.

DONT STAY AT THE HOTEL NEWTON. Its a great location at 95th and broadway.. but it was expensive and one of the worst hotels ive ever been in!

I am planning to stay in The Grant Hotel

306 W 94th St
New York, NY 10025
USA

The cheapest and the closest I can get right now

Thanks for your responses... I figure I might go with the one ddsjymaeng posted. I really have no preference since I only require the hotel to have a bed and an alarm clock.

you can even go farther downtown.
i can tell you that to get up to 168st from midtown takes at most 45 min, but usually 30 min.

1hr subway ride to review your stuff (especially in morning, uptown 1 is empty) would prob relax you anyways.

look for chain hotels in midtown.

Problem is, I'm flying in following my Nova interview into LaGuardia and won't arrive there until 10ish.. although I would LOVE to sit on the subway to relax for an hour to look over my application, I don't have that luxury. 🙁

I stayed there last year during my interview and it was terrible. The building, while in a nice neighborhood and in a nice brownstone was horrible on the inside. It was totally run down and pretty disgusting.

The hotel has "colorful" residents who live there, and the night before my interview this wierdo and his friends next door kept up screaming crazy ****. I knocked on the dude's door and he showed up in a bathrobe with a funny hat on, and the inside of his place was painted black, with a black light and disco ball. I mean that was cool if you're in college, but homeboy was like 50! I finally got them to shut-up but i didn't sleep at all that night.

If i paid like $70 I wouldn't be bitchin, but i paid $130!!! TOTAL rip off!!!!!!!!! You can find better deals, and you don't need to be that close. Find a nice place in midtown or in the village and take the A or C express all the way up.
