columbia md waitlist??
Started by limeade
i'm in the same boat - got an md waitlist letter about two weeks ago. i just called them, and they told me that there is not an MSTP waiting list this year, meaning that md waitlist is equivalent to MSTP rejection. sucks! good luck with everything, guys
Let's say you get into Columbia med school. Anybody know anyone who did that and then successfully transferred into the MD/Phd program at Columbia? And can you do that after just one year?
One student from the first year class transferred into the program this year (one applied). This person was an MD-only applicant with significant research experiences and an identified mentor. This person had to apply and interview. I do not know how frequently this occurs, and you should not base your decision to pursue a medical school solely on this possibility.
Thanks for the reply. Another question: Let's say you get rejected by Columbia but get into another school as an MD/PhD. Anyone know of anybody who was able to transfer into Columbia's MD/PhD program (or another top school's MSTP) after a year of stellar results at another school? One would think that the reason for requesting a transfer has to be very compelling (although the real reason may not be just status but the superiority of Columbia's research and faculty). And would the school you transfer from penalize you financially?

Is this really your situation? It sounds impossible, but I can't say for sure. Why would you even think about this?! It sounds as if you should take your guaranteed MD/PhD acceptance and move on with physician-scientist life, though if there's more to your story please let us know.
