Hi all-
I will be attending Columbia this fall as the Class of 2012, and I have a few questions to my upper classmen. I would highly appreciate it if you would answer my questions.

a. Do I need to keep my furnitures (bed, desk, wardrobe, etc) even if I will live in a dorm?

If dorms are furnished, are they usually in a good condition?

May I replace them with my own furnitures?

b. What is the daily schedule like as d1 student at Columbia?

Will I have 8-5 lectures M-F?

c. Should I start collecting teeth or is it unnecessary?

Thanks in advance🙂

good questions! BUMP!

I HOPE WE DO NOT HAVE TO COLLECT ANY TEETH!

-i live off campus so i dont know about dorms. i will ask few people in class today

-we didnt have 8 am class yet 🙂 mostly it is 10-4 or 10-5. fridays are now 9-5 (operative all the way)

-i am first year and they didnt mention anything about teeth yet. so far we used plastic for everything. i think we will need them for 2nd year though.

see you people!

a. school housing is furnished...well at least georgian and bard. not sure about towers though. pretty sure it is. if you're not satisfied w/ the furnishing, u can ask to get it replaced (got a new bedframe and couch this way)

b. as shamrock mentioned, 1st year schedule can start anytime from 9 to 10 (mainly medical classes in the morning) and usually ends at 4-5ish on tuesdays, thursdays (anatomy), fridays (dental anatomy and operative) and on mondays and wednesdays, the schedule varies quite a bit. the schedule changes on a week to week basis, and you are given a master schedule at the beginning of the semester so you can keep track. 2nd year however, you will have a couple of 8AM classes each week, and be consumed by afternoon dental labs that lasts until 5PM for 2 to 3 times a week. fall semester 2nd year we actually had full afternoons off on wednesdays, thursdays and fridays! (not like it makes things a whole lot easier when u have a billion exams)

c. tooth collection is unnecessary until the summer after 1st year. even then, it is not mandatory. even if u dont collect any tooth, u'll still get enough teeth to work with during 2nd year for operative and endodontics. its just that if you collect ur own teeth, u have more control over the quality of teeth you collected, and not having to fight over the severely carious teeth.
