hi

i was wondering.. how does one go about picking a postbac program? more specifically, i'm trying to decide between columbia and upenn - both starting this summer. i dont know how to choose a program, both look like they have good points and bad points. perhaps any of you have been to the programs? - could you give some insight into what they're like? i'm wondering which program med schools favor upon and which one would be more conducive to success on mcats and med school admission.

thanks

Check out the Rate Your SMP/Post-Bac forum. Post #15 rates Columbia and Post #29 is from me about the Penn PB. Both posts are very honest and extensive. Maybe you could read them first and see what you think. I'm not that thrilled about Penn PB and wouldn't come back if I could do it over, so you'll have to take my advice with a grain of salt. But you'll see in my review that I have some very important points that go into the "pros" section of the review so there are some good things about the program.

PM about any specific questions about Penn and I would be happy to answer them for you. Good luck!

You can definitely PM me if you have any questions regarding Columbia. I'm finishing up there this May.

I started out at Penn, didn't like it and finished up just taking classes as a non-matriculated student at another school.

PM me if you have specific questions about Penn.
I don't want to bad mouth the place, but it wasn't a good fit for me.

When did you attend the program at Penn? Briefly, why didn't you like it? It seems like with a reputation like Penn has, the small class of post back that penn takes, and the available linkages, that penn would appears to be a good program. Thanks

For me, and I don't know if gman would agree, it was primarily poor advising - that was a biggie for me. Also, I didn't like that we didn't have a lot Penn professors and that most of them were visiting and therefore did not have office hour time on campus. But advising for me is huge because I think I got screwed a little in terms of things....but that's just me....you can read my review for more details....
