For those of you who have received (or are going to receive) an interview at Columbia, I was wondering where you were planning to PARK & STAY.

Every time I've been to the city, I've used public transportation to get around; however, I'll have my car with me this time and campus happens to be in the section of the city I am least familiar with.

I'll be arriving the NIGHT before.

I really appreciate your ideas and suggestions! 🙂

There is a parking garage on 165th and Ft. Washington, but it's VERY expensive. You could try to park your car the night before and then take the train in the next morning, but that could also be a pain. Hope that helps, good luck.

Yes, there is a parking place (actually a couple, I think): one on 165th and one on the 170's. Ask the admissions office, they should have more information. They might be also able to give you a free pass, or something (i don't know for sure, but it is worth asking).

Bones and NYC, Thank you for the information! It sounds like the Fort Wash Ave garage is the place to park (the school mentions a discount).

I could then take a cab from there to my hotel (school arranged for deals at places downtown that I am more familiar with).

The next morning, I could check out of my room and hop on the A train express to 168th.

Has this plan worked for anybody else? Anything I should know about the area the school is in?

Have a Happy Thanksgiving

I take it that you are not interested in staying with a host student. I will recommend that. The people are really nice and you will get a good sense of the community. ANd, BTW P&S provides one of the portable beds in the med students' rooms.

when are you coming to the city? Depending when, I could recommend a few places near the Columbia downtown campus to look for free street parking. Washington Heights isn't the best place to find parking, unless you use the garage people mentioned.

That sounds like an excellent idea! My concern is that I may be arriving later in the evening (possibly midnight) and I do not want to inconvenience a student who may be in the middle of studying for exams. If I knew for sure when I could get out there, I'd go the student - host route... best way to meet peops and learn about the school.

Thanks for the input.
