I posted this in the pre-veterinary forum but I'll add it here as well since I'm not sure if there are many current students that look at those threads.

I'm incredibly interested in doing the combined DVM/MPH degrees with ISU and the U of Iowa, and I'm curious to know if any of the SDNers at ISU are or know anyone doing the program. Mostly, I'm interested in how challenging they find the program and if they struggle with the extra coursework.
I went and talked to the advisor here at Iowa yesterday and this was the only question she couldn't really answer.

Any comments are appreciated!

I don't find it to be THAT much more work. It's busy during the summers- I took 10 credits last summer where other people had it off, but a lot or research. I know a few vets that are going back to get their MPH. If they let you double-dip in credit hours, then do it now. In the long run, you'll save $$. It'll open more doors for you than you many be aware of. If you are even considering doing it, and thinking you could end up in that field. Do it now while you're already in school, rather than deciding you want it later and then have to go back. It'll give you more job options when you get out- and if they economy still stinks when you get out, you'll be glad you have more job options/variety. I don't know exactly where I'll end up, but I can see myself doing public health, and I want that option when I graduate.

Thanks for asking the question - I'm considering this as well. Some people have advised for me to wait and go back because many companies will pay for and send you back for the program. I'm 80% sure I'll be going into public health so it does seem like a way to seperate myself from the crowd upon graduation....

When did you apply to get into the program, youur 2nd year?
