Anybody knows if a combined ID/Critical Care specialty is possible? I read few posts about how Critical Care Medicine can be combined with other subspecialties, doesn't necessarily have to be with pulmonary. If so, how the fellowships work? Do I have to take 2-year ID fellowship first then apply for another 2-year critical care fellowship thereafter? Any programs that offer one combined fellowship?

Please advise. Thanks so much!

ucsf has taken medicine subspecialists and offered them 1-year critical care fellowships. this has happend recently for a cardiologist and is underway for a nephrologist. we also have an em-trained physician doing the same 1-year critical care fellowship. there is flexibility here.

I'm interested in this path as well.
Does anyone know what kind of career options you would have upon finishing? Would an ID/CC doc be pretty much limited to academics, or would it be possible to find a private group that would let you do both CC work and ID consults?
