I've encountered a combustion question and don't know how to answer, please help.

C(s) + O2 -> CO2 +H2O deltaH = -100J/mol

If 100 mol of O2 react with elemental carbon, how much energy is released?
What does elemental carbon mean? does it mean 1 mole of carbon?
Should I use -100 x 100 to get the final 10kJ?

Elemental carbon = carbon in its natural state. Elemental oxygen = O2. It also means that their heat of formation = 0J. I guess they want it to be excess carbon.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is what I remember from 3 years ago, GenChem.

to the last q. i would recommend hitting the books harder if you need to ask what the elemental form of carbon (or any other element for that matter) is. the elemental form is the form of the element in which it is most commonly found. (e.g. diatomic oxygen gas, liquid mercury etc)
 
is there a possible answer to this? i thought elemental carbon will have 0 J.. am i mixing this up for something else? I know that when you do the Ksp for this, you will ignore elemental carbon since its a solid...
