Any current residents who recently took level 3 have advice on the best test banks to use. I'm taking level 3 at the end of July and wasn't able to find any recent posts about which test banks to use in the exams section. Thanks for the help.

COMBANK. It's a super easy test though so don't sweat it. There are people that get 900+.

The only people who struggle are those who have an intern year that's super specific like pathology, psychiatry, or some surgical sub-specialties which leads them to forget general medicine.

What about peds residency?

What's the opinion on taking it right before intern year no matter what residency you're going into? Big mistake or not a big deal?

People have done in this in the past and its not a bad idea. But if you take it before July 1, you program may not reimburse you for the testing fee. You may want to check with your program, its $800+.

I took it in April, super easy test. Minimal study time to get in the upper 700's.

Going back, I'd take it right before intern year if I were doing it all again. It's not a bad exam, and anyone who passed med school should pass this test with minimal trouble. You only need a 350.

Oh and I agree with the poster who said use COMBANK.

Any advice for those of us likely to "forget general medicine" ? 😉

That wasn't mean to be a jab or anything. It's just harder to keep up with the IM part of the board exam when you're not doing it everyday.

I really like the book, Step up to Medicine. I pretty much studied for Step 3 the same as Step 2.

I know man. I just sold Step Up. Put me to sleep during Step 2 study (never made it past the cardio section). Anything else out there? Maybe just hit UWorld?

In all seriousness, do it during your intern year (psych, right?)
I most definitely plan on it. Just want to make sure I prep well. I don't care about killing it. Just want to pass comfortably.

Take the exam early in the year. Combank/Uworld is plenty. It's really not hard and no one cares what your score is.

Master the boards is a decent book.

Thanks! Decent is good enough for me at this point.

I worked through COMBANK once and it worked as a decent study tool. I would look through Peds, OB and OMM since they were a high proportion. Scored a 999 but definitely geared toward primary care knowledge.

Take it before intern year if possible. It's easy and most of the knowledge is really Level 2 stuff...the longer you're away from that test (and MS3 rotations), the more that knowledge is decaying.

You're going to have far bigger fish to fry once intern year starts...it's better to be able to focus on residency than on Level 3 (which is really a distraction for most residents).

This, I really wish I'd just gotten it out of the way. Sucked burning vacation time to take the exam.

Is this possible? Isn't it a requirement to have proof of graduation before you can even register for the test?

I know some schools that finish in April. My school's graduation is at the end of May, so we can't register until June 1st. That said, it gives you that month (minus residency orientation/moving time) to study.

Hey I was just curious if the clinical decision making cases are just like the ones on the nbome website. I have my test on Tuesday and just didn't want any surprises. Thanks

Any current residents on here recommend on what resource to use, specifically for the CDM questions? I'm planning on taking this in between graduation and the start of intern year since I heard they will be adding a second test day including an interactive OMM component starting 2018. Was planning on just using UWorld + Savarese but not sure if that will cover the CDM questions well. UWorld >>>>> Combank for Level 1 and 2 and I figured the same for Level 3. Didn't want to miss out on anything by settling for Combank.

Just use the practice ones on the website. You can't really study for them. Just know the format and how they are graded and you will do fine.

What resource did you end up going with?

I'm a current MS4, and I've been told to take it early in Intern year and that UWorld and/or COMBANK are sufficient. Also, it becomes a 2-day test in 2018, so GET IT OVER WITH!

I used UW and Comquest, probably overkill (didn't finish either one but used UW before I used Comquest), I got 800+, highest I've ever scored on the COMLEX.

Main thing to be aware of is the CDM cases on the last block and make sure to prep for the general format so you don't feel lost on test day.

Any prep besides the samples on the NBOME website?

I'm planning on using COMQUEST + OMG OMT. I've heard the exam isn't that hard, so this should suffice. UWorld is definitely overkill. Also the fact that the new format contains an interactive OMM session means the test is less amenable to the green book, and OMG OMT should be better since they actually show you how to do techniques.

As mentioned already, you need a 350 to pass... you can do that in your sleep!

Anyone use Online Med Ed as a source and then a QBank? Pretty much my strategy for level 2...trying to avoid buying new books.

'Interactive' in what way? A webcam? Surely they can't have us go to Philadelphia again.
