Hey all,

Kauffman says to avoid using abbreviations in the SOAP note, however I know a lot of people who used them for their exam to help save time. Below is a list of some abbreviations I am thinking about using. Does anyone recommend against using any specific ones?

Thanks,
Dan

They will give you a list of acceptable abbreviations.

I wrote out everything because I didn't want to accidentally use a bad abbreviation and it takes time off the clock to check what the acceptable abbreviation is.

And I passed.

In the Orientation Guide the COMLEX people actually say to limit your abbreviations if possible. In the link below on page 11, there is the list of acceptable abbreviations.

I wasn't aware Kauffman recommended that. I strongly disagree with that recommendation. However, you should abide by and practice from the list of approved abbreviations the NBOME provides. Otherwise, by not using abbreviations, your hand will be dead by the end of the day. It will also save you a lot of precious time during the SOAP note, which can be limited at times.
