Hi all,

I have about 15 comm college credits none of which are major pre-reqs with the exception of english composition. The rest were spanish, sociology, communication, etc. my question is that does that mean I have no chance of applying and being accepted to schools such as Temple, Michigan, Tufts, Boston? I'm just a little worried.

Thanks!

It's my understanding that english comp would be the only one that would need a re-take at a college or university since it's a pre-requisite. Other than that, I think you can take whatever else you want at a CC but that the schools (I know Tufts for instance) won't accept them. You'll have a chance like everyone else as long as that english comp class is re-taken unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. So as long as I retake eng comp =( I should be able to apply to any dental school despite having taken comm college classes? I just browsed through doc toothache's post and noticed he wrote "electives" is he referring to gen ed courses?

Keep in mind that there are many schools that accept CC credits as well.

Yeah so long as the requirements for the school are not CC credits. I have a few CC credits for classes that I took during my gap year a couple years ago and Tufts would not consider them. One of them was biochem but I ended up taking it again while in grad school so it worked out anyways.

Based on the ADEA 2013 guide and the schools' website, you should be fine. Did you take any pre-req science courses at CC?

I also have a question about comm college on the AMCAS app. If I took some courses the summer after my freshman year of college, do I mark it as summer school? Or does summer school mean you retook a class that you failed previously?

Don't know how AMCAS works but I listed my summer courses as a summer semester. At my school they had two summer semesters so I marked my class as Summer 1.
