1) I was under the impression most independant contractor commercial docs that worked full time or close were lease-holding or employed by lease-holding docs, and that the percentage of them as W-2 filing "employees" are extremely rare since you'd have to be HMO or government employed for that to be true. that being said I was expecting the responses to come from full time (40-50 hr/wk) single lease-holders at walmart, lenscrafter, etc.
2) good answer, but a large standard deviation doesnt mean I don't want the data. more patients = more money right? since in the usual case, you get paid what you charge
3) see first point. the only difference I see is between filing 1099 and W-2 is the 7.6%ish extra taxes on the IC but you get to deduct a few (insiginificant) things. By pre-tax I mean before paying personal income taxes, but after any corporate/business/other taxes if such things apply.
Yes theres plenty of variables and I probably should specify geographic region, personal hygiene levels, and feng shui/karma score too right? Just looking for an estimate, and I think those estimates should be fairly close between various commerical docs. I would go with the BLS numbers or the salary.com numbers or the AOA numbers but the AOA one looks too high and the BLS looks a little low.
To Fonziefonz: thanks for wasting bandwidth and giving us your opinion of what information other people want to give out.
