So one of the questions on the application for a committee letter asks: have you ever been subject to academic probation, conduct violations, etc. at university? Yes or No

I was put on residential probation at a different school due to an incident. It was freshman year; just trying to have some fun.

Would it be in my best interest saying no to this question? I don't want to have to explain this to the committee and I don't want it to influence the committee letter in any way and ruin my chances.

I would strongly recommend not lying on official forms. On the actual app, you're asked that same question, and you better not lie on that one because if anyone finds out they could rescind your acceptance. Also, if you have to put it on your med school app, you'd probably have to explain it, so it would be in your best interest to practice explaining it to the comittee first.

That being said, because it happened at a different school I would explicitly ask the committee office if you need to check yes for your situation. The real issue is whether or not its in your file/record.

I assume this happened at university housing... if so, check with them and see if it is on record. if not, then no.

Answer Yes.

Just got to find out if it is on your official record. I had something similar and they told me it wasn't an issue. Regardless, even if you do have to put it on your app I wouldn't worry too much about it, just give a solid explanation. There are plenty of premeds out there that had a little too much fun and got busted by "the man".

Survivor DO

If you are ever unsure or think that there is any way that the answer should be yes answer yes then explain yourself. If the adcom thinks it was a big deal how you handled it will be helpful in figuring out if you match the schools goals. If adcom doesn't think it is a big deal then it is a non issue.

Ok, now we know you just want to make it difficult for the upcoming applicants. Don't listen to MedPR, ever.

Ok worst case scenario here.

OP lies to the committee. Committee packet includes something about the OP being in good academic and behavioral standing throughout his career. Unless the OP is also going to lie on his AACOMAS/AMCAS, adcoms will see the discrepancy and OP will be screwed.

Committee letters aren't even necessary.

There's no reason to tell a lie just to get it and risk getting caught down the road.

Should have just said that committee letters are not necessary lol. Yeah, I just hunted down letters from people that I knew would give me one.

Lie on an application and you might as well set it on fire.

He is asking about lying to the pre health committee not to the application service. Now, if they catch him maybe they would write in their letter about it, at which point auto reject.

There's no way you could have been serious here.

edit: Nevermind. Looking at your post history, you were totally serious. 🙄
