I'm trying to arrange my schedule for next fall and I'm wondering if certain days of the week are more common than others for med school interviews? Ideally, if a certain day is more common, I'd try to make it a light class/no class day. At the moment, I could theoretically have no class on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
Thoughts?

Maybe it was just chance, but I had most of my interviews Monday / Tuesday. I don't recall having any invites on Fridays.

However, most schools are incredibly flexible with interview dates, I was able to schedule all my interviews as I needed them. I preferred Mondays, as I could fly out on Sunday, stay the night, interview on Monday, then fly back the same night and make it to class on Tuesday.

My interviews fell on every single day of the week - Mondays through Fridays with Thursday being the most common day for me. Yes, schools will often let you reschedule (I always tried to choose Mondays if possible in order to miss less work) but being able to pick a specific weekday oftentimes just wasn't an option since many schools only interview on certain days of the week and some only once or twice a month. Just try to have as flexible of a schedule overall as you can.

I think mine were mostly any day except Wednesday (only 1 Wed interview)...more were on T/Th. See if you can get early morning classes on M/W so you can fly out that day if necessary instead of taking a red eye.......and having red eyes that will scare your interviewer.

They can be scheduled for whenever.

For Fall '09, every interview I had (4 in the Fall) was on a Thursday. Luckily, I made my schedule so I never had classes on Thursdays (just research) and my PI was fine with me leaving for the day. I never really had to miss a class.

Spring was a different story. All 3 of my Spring interviews interfered with classes, but I have awesome professors who completely understood and it was never once an issue.

Also, you can request to move an interview date.

Mine was all days other than Friday and the weekends.

For the schools that you schedule your own time, it works out well.

You can also look at the schools' websites to see which ones interview on which days of the week. For example: OSU is on MW, Baylor only on F, Vermont on T and Th, Loyola does Sat interviews...

Knowing the schools on your list in advance helps a lot.

Thanks. Basically, I can either concentrate all my classes on monday and wednesday (most of my time senior year is spent thesising and not actually in class, so I don't have very many) or have one or two classes a day, monday, tuesday, wendesday, and thursday (which, unfortunately for traveling purposes, would be late in the afternoon).

i had 4 thursdays, 3 tuesdays, 2 mondays, and one wednesday.

i know it's easy for me to say this since i'm not in school anymore (and wasn't when i was interviewing) but you've really got to prioritize med school interviews over classes to the extent that you can. most of the time you're given a choice of dates, so that helps if you need to avoid certain days of the week. and if not, your profs will just have to understand. this is your future you're talking about.

WVU was on a Monday
EVMS is on Wednesday or Friday
VTC is on Saturday

All of mine were on friday (TX), with one being a 2 day into saturday.

When does the interview cycle typically start for most schools? Say I turned in my apps in mid-June, how soon could I get an interview? I'm trying to make some tentative summer plans...thanks!

my first interview was on 9/10. some schools (not ones i applied to, though, so i'm not sure) start in august, and there might even be a (very) few who interview in july? again, not sure.

Most schools will not start interviewing until after the start of the M1 classes. My guess is that most begin interviews after Labor Day (first Monday in September) and few begin later than mid-October.

In general, applicants who submitted in June are interviewed by early December if they are interviewed at all... and no, I'm not kidding.

a notable exception is that some schools are very receptive to letters of strong interest. i managed to nab a february interview at one school, even though i submitted my app in june, because i wrote to them in early january.

Interviewed every day of the week as well. Most were friday/thursday though, as those are the days I picked when I got the option.
