I'm going to be overseas in the middle of nowhere on Match Day (I've already decided there will be no scramble). How does the NRMP normally communicate with applicants?

I think I read somewhere that they'll send you a "you matched" or a "you didn't match" 2 days prior to match day. So if you do match, do you they send you the name of a program by email? Or do you have to check a website? Your deans' office?

Sorry, I am sure this is all pretty basic stuff.

And do you contact your program after the match, or do they contact you?

they send you an e-mail to your designated e-mail address

If you match, on March 15 at 1:00 PM you will know your program from your match profile. The program usually will send you welcome email after that (one hour to weeks) depending on the program. You can also send email or call them, whatever you like. The program will pretend to all matched candidates that he ranked every one as number one in their list and the candidates too. Till the beginning of training a lot of paper work, congratulations, information and so on will start.

Does anyone know the procedure if you apply to both categorical and pgy2 positions if you match to a pgy2 position but not to a pgy1 year does the program let you know if you are only unmatched to pgy1 or just that you are completely matched/unmatched

This is from the nrmp.org website (http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/user.html). Hope this helps.

2. Congratulations, you have matched to an advanced position but not a first-year position!
This message will be displayed for any applicant who matched to an advanced
position, but did not match to a preliminary position listed on his/her
supplemental rank order list. Applicants who receive this message will have
access to the Dynamic List of Unfilled Programs and are eligible to participate in the post-Match Scramble for unfilled positions to obtain a preliminary position; however, applicants may not use the Scramble to obtain a categorical position or a different advanced position.
