I almost have my bachelors degree (Fall 05), and part of it had a speech/communications requirement which was waived for me (without any credit given) because I had it in high school, yet I notice most of the schools I applied to require communications, so do I have to take it or not? I already registered for it for this fall, but I wanted to check with you guys to see what u think, do I have to take it? My guess is yes...

Some schools may not require you to take it while others may not. The only way to be 100% sure is to call the school you are interested in applying to and ask them. 🙂

My guess would be Yes too. I know schools sometimes waive classes because of AP credit from high school but never because you merely took a class in high school because obviously, the level of difficulty/understanding in a high school class doesn't measure up to a college level class.

A lot of the schools I'm applying to require it, so when I called them, some of them said they would waive the requirement (since I've been working for 3 years in a communication-intensive job), but some said they had no exceptions to the policy. So guess what? I'm taking it now because of those other schools. 🙄

Like someone else said---call the school.

They probably will require it because my school, for example, even has a communications class built into the pharmacy school curriculum. ---THAT'S how big of a deal it can be.

Hope that makes some sense! 🙄

The speech class isn't all that much work. At least mine wasn't. We either had to give a speech or listen to other speeches. A lot less brain power was used than in bio or chem.

That's not necessarily true. It's all dependent on the instructor you have and can be subjectively graded.

My speech class was intensive. Our instructor demanded a lot.
