Hey Guys

I know this community college stuff has been asked numerous times, but most of the threads has been kinda

old, so wanted ask here.

I am currently at the CC, and took all the prereqs(Gen Chem 1,2 Bio 1,2, O Chem 1,2, Physics 1,2), and

managed make all As. I have a GPA 3.95.

I am transferring to University of Kentucky this fall, and planning for applying 2014 cycle.

Should I take few more upper science class like biochem before I apply to prove that I am still competent at

University level, or just kill the DAT and apply?

Speaking of the DAT change.(sorry I know here is not DAT section)

I bought the DAT destroyer last year(Math, and Gen chem two books.)

But I heard that the DAT is changing which ticks me off, because I bought the Crack the DAT as well.

I will take the DAT for sure in 2 years(2016)

Can anyone shed the light on this? I spent a lot of money on this prep books.

Specifically I bought the PAT and Reading section from the Crack the DAT, and math and Science from

DAT destroyer.

Hope yall a good weekend

Also, University of Kentucky, and Universtiy of Louisville are the only dental schools(dream schools) that i am gonna apply for.

Anyone who is in those schools, throw me some advice will be appreciated

How exactly are you going to apply this upcoming cycle but not take the DAT until 2016? With the pre-reqs you've taken, you should be able to take the DAT this year. You will probably need to study up on physiology though since that's generally not covered in general biology courses. The Bio section is changing this year and I believe the QR portion will be changing as well, but I don't think enough people have taken the exam lately to notice the changes. You will probably need to be patient and wait for people to do breakdowns of their DAT before you will know how the exam has changed.
I would advise you to apply to more than two schools. Even with stellar grades and a great DAT, that doesn't guarantee admission. I would apply to several other schools just in case you don't get into UK or Louisville.

He meant applying for Kentucky to finish his undergrad in 2014.

As for the original post, the DAT changes haven't been implemented yet so no one knows how that will turn out yet. (See: http://www.ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/dat_news_2013.pdf) You should take some upper division classes and you should apply to more than 2 schools as the above poster stated. Otherwise, you're on the right track and the books should still be somewhat useful for the most part.

I can hopefully shed some light on the CC situation as I took the same route as you.

I did all my pre-reqs at a CC (got A's in them), then transferred to a 4 year. Whether you are or aren't a bio major, I highly recommend taking as many upper division courses as possible (especially if you completed your pre-reqs at a CC). I actually waited until I graduated to apply because I wanted to have more upper division credits than pre-req credits (of course you don't necessarily have to do that).

The reason being is that the DAT is important, but it doesn't weigh that heavily. A great score on the DAT can somewhat eliminate questions/doubts the adcom have about your CC credits, but you also have to prove that you can handle the rigors of dental school (and that's where upper division courses are great for CC students like us).

thanks man.

That is probably I will do, take some upper classes(like biochem) and apply

if you don't mind me asking, r u in dental school now or still waiting?

thank you.

What about the math section?

heard they are replacing stats instead of the trig questions.

Changes to DAT Critical Thinking Content

In order to enhance testing of critical thinking skills, the Quantitative Reasoning Test (QRT)
specifications have been revised to eliminate the sections for numerical calculations,
conversions, geometry, and trigonometry. Items will be added in the following areas: data
analysis, interpretation, and sufficiency; quantitative comparison; and probability and statistics.
These changes will be implemented no sooner than 2015.
