I messed up my freshman year of college and got a D+ in gen Chem and didn't have the foresight to retake it, so before I apply to med shcool (applying to mostly DO schools), I need to retake Chem since almost all DO programs I'm looking into require at least a C-/C in the pre-req courses. My question is, does it look bad to retake a course at a CC, or should I try to find a local college that will let me take Chem there? I didn't think taking a course at a CC was much of a problem, but my advisor said that after going through college and taking a pretty rigorous course load, taking a course at a CC will look bad. How much of a detriment will it really be taking one course at a community college?

seems to be ok according to consensus

It would be fine for DO but of course do well or it could hurt you.

Your advisors seems somewhat inexperienced or just gave you bad advice based on his own insight into the matter. There is absolutely no negative consequence to retaking it at a CC.
