I took Gen Chem 1 during the Spring semester of my freshman year. I took the second semester in the Summer so I could be on time for taking Ochem the following Fall of my sophomore year. Since that is one of the prereqs, will schools look down at that/not accept that as credit? I'm a senior right now applying next cycle.

A few schools dont take pre-req credits from CC. Most notably BU and Temple. Forgot which others. You will need to take an advanced chem class to cover up for it at a 4 year.

Which means its better to take it at a 4 year if you plan on applying to those schools.

what'd be an example of an advanced chem class?

a chemistry class that requires chemistry as a pre-req. For example at my school there is a class called medicinal chemistry that requires chem 1+ 2 as a pre-req. Now whether your school offers it or not I have no clue.

I just completed my chem minor this past semester and I've taken drug chem and physical chem (both had gen chem as a prereq)

I suggest running this with the schools themselves as well. The admissions team would be the ones who can give you the green light.

yeah will do, thanks for the input!

lots of dental schools take CC credit. I had 70 semester units worth of CC credit. I got in this cycle and no one asked me anything about it.

Very few schools don't take cc credits. I took nearly all of my prereqs at a cc and no school that I applied to had a problem with this. So, you're good to go.

Okay that's pretty reassuring! I'll call the schools just to make sure I guess

I got multiple acceptances last year, including Temple, with almost all prerequisites taken at CC except for Biochem and Ochem. However, I have a Biochemistry degree from a 4 year university (transferred there after 2 year at CC) with 3.7 GPA and 21 DAT. I'm not an URM, either. Depends on your upper level classes grades, your GPA and your DAT, if they are decent enough I think you will be fine for the academic aspect.

Oh damn that's awesome! Yeah for me it'd literally just be that 4 CC credits of gen chem lecture and lab for the prereq requirements. I just don't know which schools will reject my application if I have those CC credits. I was worried that Temple would but I guess not according to your situation! I'm confident in my gpa, DAT, and upper level science grades so hopefully I'll be alright.

Get the 2015/16 ADEA guide to dental schools, it's an online resource that will tell you which schools accept CC credits and many other important things.

I know Tuft and Boston don't take them
But while Boston graciously accept you if you take upper level classes of bio or chemistry
Tuft is so adamant about their decision that they want you to retake them at 4-year university. That's what I read on their website, I hope they are not serious, but you never know!

I'll call boston and tufts about it but I don't really understand why Boston makes that rule. I've taken upper level bio/chem classes so hopefully those will do!
