Hey all,

I'm a non trad student taking most of my prerequisites at a community college (I got my BA in Poli Sci.) I've been looking more closely at the pre reqs required for various programs on PTCAS and noticed that most programs require a "General" level Chemistry. The chemistry series I've taken is 'Intro to Chem' and 'Intro to Bio/Organic Chem.' Now I'm anxious that these will not qualify as General level Chem courses and I'll be scrambling to fit them in my schedule before applications start. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of situation where your courses weren't accepted for including "Intro" in the title?

Thanks!

I took most of my pre recs at a community college but my course stated general. You have to be extremely careful but most programs won’t accept intro level classes. You should contact the schools you’re interested in and give them the name of the course/number, course description, & name of the school. And they should be able to tell you if they are equivalent.

I took both intro to chem and general chem, got an A in intro to chem and B in general chem and was told I couldn’t use intro to chem as a prerequisite. Had to use general chem to fulfill both chem prerequisites

Thanks for the feedback! That's what I figured... WELL looks like I'm cramming in some more prerequisites :bang:

If you can handle it and are confident you can get A’s in them then go for it! But don’t stress yourself in just trying to cram and finish prerequisites. Just speaking from experience. No reason to rush!

I would just email your specific programs. Those Intro classes were fine for two places I applied to, and another one accepted those but wanted a third Chem so I just had to take the 1st Gen Chem I, and others wanted the Gen Chem series.

UPDATE for anyone in a similar situation: I sent an email blast to my long list of schools and the majority of them were just fine with the intro courses. They seem more concerned about whether the course credits convert to the correct amount of required semester hours. Just FYI 🙂
