Do people know which schools will or won't take a prereq from a community college? I am missing a course (exempted from genchem, but it isnt on my transcript). In the case that schools wont take a letter from my premed dean, I was hoping to take it right before matric if necessary (after acceptance), cheaply, at a comm coll. ($200 vs $1700 at UC berkeley).

My schools are currently:
Boston University
Brown University
Harvard University
Jefferson Medical College
Johns Hopkins University
Northwestern University
Oregon Health & Science University
Stanford University
Tufts University
University of California, Davis
University of California, Irvine
University of California, Los Angeles
University of California, San Diego
University of California, San Francisco
University of Chicago
University of Colorado
University of Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
University of Pittsburgh
University of Southern California
Vanderbilt University
Yale University

Thanks!

Northwestern: Not Recommended
Chicago: Not Recommended
Boston: First said they don't accept, but then said apply anyway, and if you're strong then you might be able to convince them
USC: Accept
Tufts: Accept

Others: I either haven't heard from others, or they aren't on your list. I asked specifically about taking just one course at a CC (like you), and it seems most would make an exception. No school has said straight up no. Hope that helps.

thanks! i'm hoping its ok, since it will be a "post acceptance pre-matriculation" course.

bump. anyone else know some info?

maybe (i'm being hopeful) all schools accept a prereq done at a cc?

i heard BU does not allow community college classes... i think that's the only school..
i did gen-bio,genchem, ochem at CC which it wont look that great!

So what if you are a transfer student and had to take a good chunk of your prereqs in CC to transfer? Do Medschools look down upon transfer students?

not really...but it would look bad if you took a pre-req at CC while attending UC... like me.. by the way i transferred to UCLA also haha

Surely it will not matter at all in your case (post acceptance). I seriously doubt if it would matter anyway...

The best defense: make As no matter where you take your classes...the toughest combo to explain would be Bs or lower at a 4 year, As at a CC...or maybe Bs or lower at a CC would be the kiss of death...just make As everywhere, and sport a 3.8+ overall GPA, and nobody will care.

Edit: Nevermind, I'll start my own thread
