I have a question about how dental schools look at CCs. I did a concurrent enrollment type program while in High School where I took CC classes instead of my normal high school classes so that I graduated with a HS diploma and an AA at the same time. I then went on to a big time university and finished my bachelors and took all of my prereq classes.

I fear that schools look at my coursework and it looks like I went to a CC because I couldn't get in to a four year university out of HS. I wonder if this is a negative on my application when I think it should be looked at a positive considering I was 17 taking college classes. I was able to explain that on many of my applications but I fear that could have been overlooked. Does anyone have any info on this?

As long as you've done well at the University you are fine.

95% of schools don't care as long as you've done well at your Uni and DAT.

People go to CC's all the time because of various reasons - adcoms understand this.

I think Tufts is the only school that wouldn't accept CC credits for required courses. Make sure to read up on on the schools you apply to. Almost all other schools to my knowledge are OK with CC credits.

I agree with this. I did something similar in HS by taking a few classes ahead of time at the local CC. It never came up in my interview, and I don't think most schools care. If a school was that picky, I wouldn't even bother applying. The only issue I'm aware of that schools have a problem with is using AP credit to exempt yourself from certain courses; e.g. taking AP English and testing out of it, so that you only need a quarter or so in college. Schools would require you to complete the minimum year at a college level.

Finish your last two years solidly, knock out the DAT, submit a decent app and call it a day.
