Does anyone happen to know which schools do not look favorably on students completing the Optometry prerequisites at community colleges? I'm a non-traditional applicant on a budget and needing to get the pre-reqs done ASAP, so it doesn't make sense for me to try and get on the lowest priority seating at a local 4-year. Very expensive and no guaranteed seats....

However, I know UCBCO *highly* discourages students from taking their required courses at the CC level. Depending on my grades, I actually may not even apply there, but I'd like to know if any other schools have the same policy. I have browsed lots of schools' sites and haven't come up with much. Any help is much appreciated!!!!

Thanky!!!! 😛

ucsbo does not care where you take those prereqs as long as you do well and show an up trend i your grades. they look at your whole app, so don't worry to much about doing your prereq's at a community college

i applied and was excepted to these 6
ucbso
indiana
suny
houston
pacific
scco

i went to 3 undergrads, including community college for 3 years (i switched to science after completing business/economic degrees) i transeferd to uc berkeley, and completed my undergrad degree there. so i am a double Cal bear. GO BEARS!!! sorry they ingrain it in you.

most schools look at your whole app, the only school that made any kind of comment about community college work was suny (do a search to find my previuos post on that one).

good luck to you, do well and be sure to do a lot of shadowing.

If you can't take them at a university what are you supposed to do? You have to take them at a cc then right?

I second the above comment. It is so expensive to take classes at a university and there is no guarantee you can even get into the classes you need. I already had a degree from a university with a great reputation and just needed some pre-req's, so I took all of them at a CC. I saved myself a ton of money and time. I have been accepted to 2 schools and am still waiting to hear from other schools. Not one seemed to care where I took my courses as long as my grades were good! I actually thought I got more out of the CC due to the smaller class size but it could also be that I'm less distracted this time around. 🙂

SAME HERE! pretty much the exact same story for me 🙂 Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I guess maybe I will try my luck at all the schools that look good after I've done more research...

Have any of the other non-trads out there applied to some schools one year, then needed to apply to the rest the following year because the second set of schools had far more prerequisites? Just curious! I have noticed that at the time of application, I will be missing just one or two classes for some schools, but I'll literally need nearly another year for some other schools (notably Univ of Houston and Berkeley)
