No, they don't. I started from a community college and I know a lot of people that are in a dental school/or are a dentist, started from the same community college. Just make sure you do well. I think that's the most important part.

Are you planning on transferring to a 4 year college? They do look at that.

Good luck.

I graduated from my state univeristy with a double degree (non-science) and I took all my science pre-reqs from a community college. Like the last post indicated, make sure you do well in the classes and also do well on your DAT. Good luck!

I can tell you for a fact that it does at Arizona. They use the USNEWS Rankings of schools to rank your schools and grade it accordingly. Those that went to the top tier schools (according to USNEWS) get better recognition. Community colleges receive a "No Rank" from the Adcom at Arizona and it reduces your total point value on your gold sheet. This helps/hinders your application depending on where you went to school. If it isn't a "ranked" school by USNEWS, then it will hurt your chances. This info is from a conversation with the Dean of Admissions at ASDOH two days ago.
This may be different from other schools and their point systems. A few other schools that I interviewed at didn't rank the schools. They just took the GPA given.

i dont think it really matters in my opinion. I think thats what the DAT is for. To standardize everything. Maybe its even better? Say that you went to a community college and recieved a same gpa compared to the other person that went to a big time university. But you did BETTER on the DAT. haha.. does that even make sense

I guess your statement (what they told you) contradicts the real facts, don't you think? I completed ALL my science pre-reqs at the community college here in AZ and it didn't hurt my chances to get accepted. I think they (AZ) look at the overall picture... just my opinion.
