so i've been volunteering at my dentists office since high school and logged in over a thousand hours in private practice, i'm treasurer of my schools pre-dental club and have about 80 hours in a community non-profit dental clinic but i JUST realized i have absolutely no non-dental related volunteering... is that a problem? 😕

I'm applying in june but taking my DAT in august, have a 3.6 overall GPA, 3.55 science GPA with a good upward trend... but i'm not sure my volunteering is enough. (and kind scared i'm taking my DAT to late)

does anyone know if adcoms are really looking for non dental related volunteering

its not a problem at all. you volunteered your time into something you (apparently) enjoyed a lot.

Whats important is that you volunteer'd your time to help your community. What activities you were involved in is irrelevent.

cool, its just that the section of the adsas application for volunteering is kind of intimidating with those 10 slots. all i can put there is pre-dental club and the non-profit dental clinic* i volunteered at so it just looks really empty and i feel like their expecting a lot more in that section (since they put 10 slots)

Art, your fine In fact, I think your volunteering is top notch. If your going to become a dentist, the chances are that if you do community service in future it would be something like this non-profit dental clinic.

PS: If I would be you,I would try taking DAT sooner (i.e mid July).

thanks for the reassurance... and yea i know i'm kind of shooting myself in the leg by taking my DAT in august but I really really really suck at Gchem and QR so i literally have to relearn everything in those two subject before i can even start to study for the other sections. i don't want to rush it and end up getting a bad score :/

maybe if im feeling prepared i'll take it in mid-late july but idk 😕

Your ECs look good. I didn't really have much nondental related community service.

As far as the DAT, GC was a really easy section, so don't stress out too much. Most of it is very conceptual. Best of luck!

From what I've heard QR is not that bad (just a lot of word problems, but the math involved is like on high school level).

For GHem, just practise, practise and practise. Also make sure you get Chad's videos, everyone is saying great things about them.

For GHem, just practise, practise and practise. Also make sure you get Chad's videos, everyone is saying great things about them.

QR is hit or miss. If you practice it's easy, but it's stuff that a lot of people haven't done since middle school (algebra/geometry). As far as content, it's not too bad though.

I would have done better if it was high school level material that was a little bit more fresh.

For GC, Chad's videos and then Destroyer should get you a 20+.

Well, the math behind the QR section is simple enough.

But you have to remember that you're being timed and the majority of the questions are word-problems.

So read, interpret, then do the math. I personally found it to be the most difficult section 🙁

I'm planning on doing chads videos for the Gchem and Ochem and maybe follow along by topic w my text books, then do the destroyer once i feel i have a grip on the subject... the destroyer seems a little to challenging to dive into without reviewing the subject

The Destroyer is decently challenging even AFTER reviewing the subject in my opinion, but everyone says it is a little harder than the actual DAT. I am almost all the way done with Chad's GC/Ochem videos, and I am still maybe getting half right on my first time through (if that). I plan to go through (hopefully) three times, and take some other tests more like the DAT level of difficulty.

if you can go through destroyer ochem/gchem a few times and get most or all correct, you will be fine. it prepares you very well for the real sections, which are easier
